****Bama vs. The Barn - PostGame Thread****

I have not been following the thread, so forgive me for repeat words or questions...

Well, I, too have taken the loss really hard. I am not sure why I felt so confident going into the game that we were going to win, unless it was because we have won every game this season so far. I have thought about the loss for the last hour. We have lost one game the past two seasons, but circumstances were such that we lucked out and still got into the NC. That will not be the case this year and it is heartbreaking as a fan. Also, the fact that we lost to AU is sickening.

There were questionable plays and missed opportunities by the players. Why did we run Yeldon down the middle over and over? It seemed so extremely predictable for the other team. Why not put fresh legs in the game? Also, would it have been better for Cade to kick again instead of a young freshman and possibly redeem himself? Cade looked so defeated on the sidelines when they put the freshman in and it was really sad. So many questions...

Oh well.. I still love the Crimson Tide and always will. Also, I would not have any other coach in the country other than Coach Saban. It just leaves Coach Saban with more things to do in the future for our team. The process will continue.

Cooper is right:

"@AmariCooper9: It's too many people in this world experiencing real pain in their lives for me to hold my head down after losing a football game."

That 's exactly why I'm still as proud of our Players as I can be, does it sting to lose a game, no doubt, life goes on & I too have bigger problems to deal with than a football loss..

I just jumped in and maybe you guys have already asked this. The 3rd down run by Yeldon before they stopped us on fourth down. I thought he got the first down and the refs marked the ball about a half yard back. Am I wrong?

Surprised there was no review.

Gosh, it is so easy to play the If game when you lose like this.

yeah, it was a really weird spot. i thought he was right at the line.

Look on this as part of the process. While winning feels good, losing can hurt more than winning pleases. And the more you win, the less enjoyable a win becomes. This loss hurt a lot. But CNS will turn that pain into a hunger to avoid that feeling again. This team had so much success that apart from LSU and TAMU there was little evidence of that hunger. Next year, the team and coaching staff will be ready for the Boogs.

Well guys, we still have a chance at the Natty....Texas a&am win.....then South Carolina win....then michigan state win next week....we would be the best 1 loss team!

It's not like I've never seen this act before. I was in Legion Field, 1972. That was bad, this is right up there with that meltdown. If I have to go 40 years between mind-blowing, historically calamitous losses, at least I probably won't be around for the next one. Like 1972, we found a previously unknown way not to win and special teams were unbelievably inept. One of these days, I'm going to stop saying "Now I've seen it all" and "It can't get any worse."

We need to win the next game, and not let Auburn beat us twice (like 1972).

Me too

Hard to blame coach for that last one - who can envision that? A lot of blame to go around, but overall we were just outplayed. I'm not sure that we were outschemed, but mental errors and an intense, focused opponent did us in.

But this sucks hard, y'all. No doubt about it.

I did. My wife, who was feeding one of our sons looked up and did. I was telling her about the Tiffen kick in 1985, but the entire time I'm sitting there thinking they had better not run this back for a touchdown, block or otherwise.

We were on the 39 yard line. That's not even really a Hail Mary. You can go five wide, roll AJ out and hope that a DB misses an assignment down the field. Or, perhaps you get a pass interference call that turns it into a 42 yard field goal, which if he misses, goes into the stands.

This one hurts for a lot of reasons. i felt both the play-calling and execution left something to be desired at times. The officiating was pathetic. And yet there were still multiple missed opportunities toward the end to put the game away and win. Then we lose on that last freakish play. And still...

2 in a row. 3 in 4 years. 72-8 since 2008. And every year during that time still in the National Championship conversation when the last regular season game kicked off (even with 2 losses in 2010). That's 6 years running. There will almost assuredly be no three-peat. There hasn't been one since the beginning of the AP Poll. We still have 15 National Championships. We have more AP Titles than any other team. We have more SEC Titles than any other team. Most bowl games played in. Most bowl games won. Most 10-win seasons. Most Iron Bowl wins. We lost this one and it always hurts a little more to lose this one - more so with history on the line. But we have a proud tradition and a strong team. Here's to finishing strong with a bowl victory. Here's to hoping against hope for BCS chaos and a rematch in Pasadena. What would be sweeter? Unlikely. Very unlikely. But how wild would that be? Roll Tide Roll!!

I had to get away for a while so I've cleaned the garage rather than posting something that would get me banned. This was a perfect storm and you could see it coming the whole game. We had them down 21-7 and I was looking forward to a blow out then AU puts together a beautiful drive, Bama flounders before the half, AU with another beautiful drive to start the 2nd half and the game is on. They pinned us deep and AJ hits Coop in the hands for a TD after driving the ball 98 yards but he drops it, Cade hits the FG but AK allegedly moved so he misses the 2nd and we get no points. Next time AJ hits Coop for a 99 yard TD. Then Yeldon makes a first down but someone was caught holding and D White hit back for offsetting personal fouls. 4th and a yard and we go for it because Cade has hooked two and had one blocked and we come up short. Credit AU for a final nice drive to tie the game then time runs out but replay shows one second left. So it wasn't just on thing, it was a bunch.

Sure, the team has played better, but there were a lot of nervous mistakes and a lot of AU is in fact a very good football team that can play with anybody if they have that running game going.

I'm very proud of this team and glad I got to see them in person vs the Vols. I'll be watching the bowl game with my same lucky shirt and the same passion as always. One of the best decisions I've made in my life was to go the the U of A and the sting of this loss will just have to be absorbed over time. God bless the players and coaches and thank you for a fantastic season.

At-large Eligibility
If there are fewer than 10 automatic qualifiers, then the bowls will select at-large participants to fill the remaining berths. An at-large team is any Football Bowl Subdivision team that is bowl-eligible and meets the following requirements:

  • A. Has won at least nine regular-season games, and
  • B. Is among the top 14 teams in the final BCS Standings.
No more than two teams from a conference may be selected, regardless of whether they are automatic qualifiers or at-large selections, unless two non-champions from the same conference are ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the final BCS Standings.
If fewer than 10 teams are eligible for selection, then the Bowls can select as an at-large team any Football Bowl Subdivision team that is bowl-eligible, has won at least nine regular-season games and is among the top 18 teams in the final BCS Standings subject to the two-team limit noted above and also subject to the following:

  • 1) if any conference has two or more teams in the top 14, then two of those teams must be selected and
  • (2) from the teams ranked 15-18, a bowl can select only a team from a conference that has fewer than two teams in the top 14.
If expansion of the pool to 18 teams does not result in 10 teams eligible for selection, then the pool shall be expanded by blocks of 4 teams until 10 eligible teams are available subject to the two-team limit noted above and also subject to the following: (1) if any conference has two or more teams in the top 14, then two of those teams must be selected and (2) from the teams ranked 15 or lower, a bowl can select only a team from a conference that has fewer than two teams in the top 14.
Relative to the two preceding paragraphs, all teams ranked in the top 14, other than those from conferences which have already had two teams selected, must be included in the bowl selections.
Note: in order to participate in a BCS Bowl game, a team

  • (a) must be eligible for post-season play under the rules of the NCAA and, if it not an independent, under the rules of its conference and
  • (b) must not have imposed sanctions upon itself prohibiting participation in a post-season game for infractions of the rules of the NCAA or the rules of its conference. ***It seems to me Alabama has the right to be in one those BCS-AT Large...***

What do we do to stop this from happening again? Auburn returns most everyone I think. We have got to figure out how to slow down the HUNH.
