Bama vs. UCLA

Now I get to razz a buddy who is a Dean of something at UCLA. Grateful for all the TOs, and fouls. Too bad we didn't capitalize at the line.

Really glad they hung on to win. My post game comments were not going to be pleasant had they lost this game. Still have some of the same thoughts even with the win but will just refrain and hope everyone enjoys the win.

Glad I went to the game, it was a fun one to watch. We knew UCLA would not quit and would make a run at us in the 2nd half. Free throws were almost our undoing but we hit the big ones down the stretch. Jimmy Taylor being able to stay on the floor late with 4 fouls was huge as he grabbed some key rebounds. Tarrant obviously carried us in the first half. Grant made a good adjustment in the 2nd half to slow down Parker in the blocks - he was killing us. I was not impressed with the Alford kid, he's not that good as a point guard but they may not have anyone else who can play there.

I get to add a win over UCLA to my totem to go with wins over other college bluebloods North Carolina and Kentucky. We need more of these kind of games on our schedule.

Bama was uncharacteristically bad from the free throw line last night. Even after last night, Bama shoots 74% from the line on the season. If Bama shot 74% instead of the bad 60%, Bama wins 60-50.

Plus, Bama shot 18% from the 3 point line rather than the season average of 31%. That average would have been an additional 6-9 points.

Would like to see the offense we had in the first few games (five 80+ point games) go along with the defense we've had in the last 5 (no opponent over 59 points).

True and some of those 3's were good looks that just didn't go in

Even if UCLA isn't a great team, it lifts the confidence for any team that beats them because of their tradition.
It's just like when Bama went through our "average" streak in football. It still thrilled teams to beat us, and often inspired them to have great seasons.
Hopefully that will be the case for us with this victory. RTR

Recorded the game and watched it after it was over but at least I hadn't heard anything about it before watching. Alabama played pretty poorly throughout the game; UCLA played horrible the first half. As bad as UCLA played, Bama made enough goof-ups to allow them to stay close so they could get back into the game in the 2nd half.

I want to see Hale get a little more active on offense. He needs to work for the ball in locations closer to the basket; not necessarily on the block but not always beyond the arc.

Agree with an earlier poster about Taylor. I thought him being able to stay in the game with 4 fouls really helped out late as he grabbed some big rebounds.
