Link: Beamer confident in QB's

Uh, what's he supposed to say?

I can tell you this, their fans aren't very confident in Ju-Ju's ability to lead the team. Surprisingly, VT has not been able to get a big-time QB recruit to Blacksburg recently. Actually, the best HS QB's (and there have been some good ones) in VA seem to be leaving the state for whatever reason the last 3 years.

I know one in particular that made the right choice ;)

I don't see VT scoring many points against us. Tyrod Taylor put up Kodi Burns type numbers last year and if he tries to run, I'll take our linebackers in that hunt.

Well of course he has to say publicly he has confidence in his quarterback. Is he supposed to say, "We have a talented players at that position, but they just aren't mature enough to lead this team. Hopefully we will score some points and they will find a rhythm. I don't expect it, though. It might be a long night."

VT Fans: Don't get me wrong, Tyrod is talented. I just do not think he has matured enough to run the offense like you need him to as a quarterback right now. I think that he will grow up some time in the middle of the year and finish strong, leading VT to the ACC Championship and another BCS Bowl Game. Expect good things next year and the following year (if he sticks around).

From what I have seen here and there, a lot is riding for Virginia Tech on this Tyrod Taylor at quarterback, just as a lot is riding on a couple of LSU quarterbacks and on Greg McElroy.

When a program gets into as high a gear as the Alabama program probably is right now, you see this type of comparison before the season, and usually after the games have played out, the strongest team and its players come out on top. This was the way it was under the Bear. My guess is that it is going to work out that way this year for Alabama.

Every year the writers would write these articles about how this or that team was going to challenge Alabama, and then methodically Bryant's teams would prevail the great majority of the time. In fact, we heard the same type thing last year about the Clemson quarterback. I bought it. But then the game was played. In less than a month and a half the Alabama-Virginia Tech is going to be played -- as they say, on the field, and not on paper.

Beamer is the king of coach speak... There's really nothing else he could say, but if Tyrod goes down we're in trouble.
