Honestly our NIL is not paying out as much as some may think. its only been a few that have had successful NIL opportunities at UA period ... primarily Bryce Young. I'm trying to find if Charles even has a NIL deal at the moment.
It seems to me that "Angry Chuck" has the potential to make a lot of NIL dollars if he would get creative on how to market himself. I have several issues with NIL and one of them is that players are expecting to just be given money by the school and not try to drum up marketing opportunities themselves. I do think athletic departments should have people that assist players with finding legitimate marketing opportunities to increase their NIL value but IMHO the players should be doing a lot of the legwork themselves.

Having said that, if I understand what collectives are, then I'm not a fan of their purpose BUT if that is the way the game is played across the country then our money guys need to step up and contribute for us to remain competitive. It has always irked me that we don't invest in all the major sports like some other schools do. One of the few things that I admire about OU is that they seem to be competitive in every sport, not just football.

The word with Bediako is that he likely got a promise from a team for a two-way deal. He is ready to go ahead and go the pro route. When you are a 7 footer you don’t always have a long shelf life for your career. If he got a two-way deal guarantee it’s not a bad move at all. He likely won’t get drafted but, a two-way will likely guarantee him some NBA time as early as next season. Times have changed with the g league in play now.

Also, in zero way is this on Oats. CNO and Chuck have always had a great relationship. This is him wanting to begin a pro career.

Chuck is a PNR rim runner. The NBA is a PNR league. I’m not sure how much NBA some of you guys actually watch but, the back to basket post up isn’t a major thing anymore. He will find a way into the league. Even if he spends an entire year in the g league, he will be in that teams system and being developed by that team and learning their system. It’s not the dumb move that a lot of people think that it is.

I really wish him well but I think he made a bad decision by staying in the draft. Now, prove me wrong and believe me, I want you to prove me wrong.

I think the comparison and the upside is Clint Capela. Clint was about the same weight when he started in Houston. Hopefully Charles can add some pounds like Clint did.

We need to make our NIL deals multi-year. BTW, congrats to Chuck for being the male featured athlete of the month on rolltide.com.

I’m sorry but that’s a terrible idea. You’re basically telling an incoming guy that they aren’t going to be good enough to develop to make it to the league. That’s a good way to kill recruiting.

I guess someone that's pretty insecure might view it that way. Wonder if they make good basketball players.

Question: How is it a terrible idea to make a multi-year NIL deal with someone?
What happens if he doesn't make it to the league? What does he have to fall back on?
If I were the recruit I would be of a mind that this school really wants me if they are willing to offer me a multi year deal.

That isn’t what I was talking about. It was about not letting someone out of an NIL just so they would stay for another year. That was my point.

Where in my post did it say we wouldn't let him out of his NIL if he gets to the league? Yes, that would be a bad idea. Good players aren't going to sign a deal like that anyway, except maybe the insecure ones, which probably wouldn't end up being very good basketball players.

That said, in a sport where relationships often seem to mean nothing, anything we can do to cultivate the idea that there is a relationship is a good thing. That and having an existing 'something' to compare to the potential something seems like a good idea.

Disclaimer: In this post, the term 'we' is meant to identify the NIL collective, not the actual basketball program.

Miller, as expected 2nd to the Hornets. Clowney to the Nets with the 21st pick.Miller is the highest Alabama pick since Antonio McDyess was drafted 2nd by the Clippers in 1995.
Miller was the only college player selected in the top 5 as well.

Beds joins an interesting list of frontcourt players that went undrafted. Including Drew Temme and Oscar Tshebwe ... who was once an SEC player of the year
