Bengals Extend Dalton

I think NFL teams in general overlook playoff performances in favor of stats, especially passing yards and completion percentage. Dalton, Ryan, and Romo are good examples. I think teams are way too quick to pull the trigger with QBs. If I'm an NFL GM, I'm saying "if I have a good defense, can I win a SB with this guy. I'm probably not gonna field an otherworldly defense like the Seahawks did last year...My guy's gonna have to make big plays when the pressure is on, consistently, and lead a comeback or two at some point." Is Dalton the guy to do that? I really don't think so. Ditto with Romo and Cutler.

Dalton just needs to keep his helmet on. You need to wear sun glasses when looking at that red hair.

Whatever happened to that Katy running back that Alabama was recruiting at Katy HS a few years ago. I think he signed with Stanford but I haven't heard about him. I just can't remember his name.

Aundre Dean signed with UCLA then got buried in their depth chart and moved back to Texas.

details of the contract came out today....little of the $100M is guaranteed money and cincy can opt out of the contract after 2 years. he does get some serious money in the next 18 months with signing bonus, roster bonus (whatever that is), plus 2-year salary.

Right now A.J. just needs to think, "Ok., just pay me"..and then go home to Kathryn.
He can't control what the front office does.
Tough, tough, situation for A.J. :) I mean that sarcastically.
sip

My brother lives there and is a season ticket holder to the Gals as I call them. He says Dalton is not very good and the fans have no confidence in him. The organization may be a different story though. I personally think AJ is better and has been prepared to play in the NFL at Alabama since our system is similar to most NFL teams. When a team invests so much in a kid, he is going to the starter unless he gets hurt.

Indeed he is. It'll develop. Let's just see where it goes.

Dalton is the starter.

McCarron has a good chance to be the 3rd team qb if he plays well…a 5th rounder has no guarantee to make the team. Having said that, I think he will make the team but there are no guarantees.

Actually no. His deal is similar to that 49ers QB, Colin. the money guaranteed is very little, meaning the contract is based on his performance on the field. I think you failed to see the bigger picture of the team in general. Dalton is ranked in the bottom tiers of the QBs and AJ is a upgrade over him ,the question is when will he see the field this season.

Based on what?

I have a feeling AJ won't play at all this year, and he will then tell his agent he wants be traded to a team that will give him a shot.

Changed my mind after seeing some of the details. Dalton will be the starter for the next 2 years, due to money. If Dalton gets hurt before then, or doesn't perform during that time, then AJ might have a shot. Problem with AJ is the shoulder, it will cut down on his few opportunities. He only has to periods to really show what he can do . This preseason and next preseason.

With AJ not throwing, it could be real questionable whether he even makes the team .

it just doesnt work like that in the NFL. it's not that easy. with whatever limited action he gets, he's going to have to be near lights out for someone to give him a shot to actually start. his best case scenario in the immediate future is to hope for a backup spot and go from there.

My brother (the one who went to Bama) met Ken Zampese this summer while they were both vacationing in Coronado. According to Zampese, AJ's shoulder is still pretty messed up, and was in bad shape when he was drafted. Apparently his shoulder was a problem at least part of last year, but I don't remember hearing anything about it; I thought I heard he had injured ribs.

Worse news for AJ?
