Tony Dixon. He was younger than I am but he was a great running back in high school and went on to play for the Tide and Dallas Cowboys.

I was absolutely slobber knockered by Wayne Davis from Gordo, Alabama in a high school game. He could hit like a train. What ever happened to him after college?

I graduated with Jeremy & Calvin. I got a few looks from SEC schools, but they all said I was too short for an SEC OL. I ended up playing at MTSU.

I'm sure I am leaving out plenty, but those are the ones who stick out to me.

you play for Andy McCollum? If so, you got to play against BAMA a time or two?

Whew, I think I intentionally forgot that part, but you're right, Tex. From the visitor's stands, DHS was driving to the end zone on my left, as I recall, when time ran out. Major's half-ending TD was to my right.

I don't remember the final, but DHS had to score a TD to win, so it must have been M.B. by 4. Perrin was QB for Decatur. I think it was a state semi-final game, and I think maybe it was Thanksgiving weekend, cause I was home from school.

Man, I was at that McGill game when Odom CAUGHT that TD pass (40 yards?) with a few seconds left. I knew the kid was for real then!

I went to Vestavia Hills High School and our best player ever is a junior this season. RB Justin Rogers is easily the best player I have ever seen at Vestavia. Watch out for him next season, I really hope we can sway this young man to the Capstone.

The best player ever from our city was Major Ogilvie, who moved so he could play for Mountain Brook. At the time Vestavia did not have a great football program and he wanted more exposure so he could make it to Bama.

Oh and Josh Hancock was easily the best baseball player from Vestavia. In high school this kid could throw a 94 mph fastball. He got drafted by the Brewers right out of high school but went to Auburn instead. I don't know what he was thinking. Now he is in MLB.

Darrel Wilson (MSU Basketball) and BTW, I shared the same experience against Wayne Davis. He was the toughest player I ever matched up against. I watched Tony Dixon play a couple of times and he was a man amoung boys.
