Ran across this on Reddit. Much respect for Coach Battle for doing this:
Other than basketball and football, the same could be said of most athletes playing college sports. The odds of being a professional golfer or baseball player are astronomical at best...enjoy the team and enjoy the games/tournaments. Before you turn around twice it's all over.Dollar for dollar, the softball program delivers tremendous success. The team has outstanding scholars. Represents well in the community, the classroom, and on the field, and does it without the lure of generational professional $$$.
Patrick Murphy does a fabulous job, year in and year out.
Note: I know that professional softball exists. But it doesn’t pay anywhere in the same galaxy as pro basketball and football, and can’t change generations’ financial positions. The significant majority of college softball players aren’t in it for the potential of pro money. They‘re playing because they love the game.
