It's the effect of global reach of the internet. The Beatles would have been the same back in the day had the internet existed. We have the same problems with housing prices, since anyone can see any house price instantly which allows investors to push up prices everywhere. We have the same problem with festivals like Coachella where you're priced out by folk with serious money.
My BIL (who lives in New Orleans) has made a similar observation. Once upon a time, he went to Jazz Fest every single year, but those days are over. Yes, he can still afford the tickets because he is a successful business owner, but it just isn't the same.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
California lawmakers in the Assembly Public Safety Committee are blocking a proposal that would make it a felony to purchase 16 and 17-year-old children for sex.

Assemblyman Nick Shultz, the Democratic chairman of the committee, confirmed AB 379, a bill to crack down on the consumers of the child sex trafficking industry, will move forward on Tuesday, but without the proposed felony charge.
Stuff like this is why I would never vote for any politician who hails from this disgusting state.
