My BIL (who lives in New Orleans) has made a similar observation. Once upon a time, he went to Jazz Fest every single year, but those days are over. Yes, he can still afford the tickets because he is a successful business owner, but it just isn't the same. It's the effect of global reach of the internet. The Beatles would have been the same back in the day had the internet existed. We have the same problems with housing prices, since anyone can see any house price instantly which allows investors to push up prices everywhere. We have the same problem with festivals like Coachella where you're priced out by folk with serious money.
