19-20 Year old kids are, "Obligated to us", to stick with the team even though they're hurting their future's?

I haven't read every single post in the thread & apologize if this has been talked about..I just watched The Zone with Mike Raita, Kevin Scarbinsky & Doug Segrest were saying Blake may transfer to a JUCO football team & then transfer to a D-1 school next season..I don't know how that would work..Just relaying what they were talking about..

I think if he goes JUCO now he will only have to sit 4 games next year, but could be wrong.

I agree with you about this and so does a lot of other people. (outside of here)

Players should play hard no matter who is in the game.

I have coached baseball for about 15 years and have seen this a few times over the years. I always go with the best guy and not who wins the team. If some don't like it they can either sit or get over it. Playing harder for one player over another to me shows you care nothing about the team.

Yeah, I knew I'd upset a few, but I didn't know they'd get quite so defensive.

My Dad was a football coach. I was on a sideline when I was six. I played toy bowl, junior high, high school, and two years of college. I made honorable mention all-state my senior year in high school.

Insinuate what you will, but my original post had no quotes - I used them as I was quoting myself.

I think it's probably in your best interest to take the rest of the night off, as at this point you're pushing the boundaries with regards to your accusations.

Now, if you wish to continue falsely accusing me of some sort of racism when you missed a rather obvious (and common) idiom, be my guest, but you will earn a vacation for it.

I do know that that the 3 best passes of the year were owned by Blake.

You've made the above comment a couple of times in this thread. For the life of me I can't remember 3 great throws by Blake. His best was in the SC game to a wide open receiver when we were up big. Also, based on your comment, Hurts first TD pass to Stewart in the same game wouldn't be one of our top 3 passes of the year thus far. I'd have to disagree with that.

Just a peek behind the curtain..the players didn't/don't "decide". However, the coaches do evaluate how the team responds to them at practice and in games. It's how Blake Sims won the team the year he started. Had nothing to do with his play in practice because he & Jake were equally awful. But Blake showed leadership through his struggles...in practice. And it's why he was afforded the opportunity to lead the team.

Makes little sense to quit the team during the semester...
Blake has been one injury away from being our starting QB. He is a good QB, but not the same type as Jalen. If it had been me... I'd have stuck it out till the semester was over. (Logical)

I think you may as well give it up. Too many people see "win the team" as some sort of popularity vote, explicit or implicit. Generally speaking, the team, as a unit, is interested in the man under center being the guy who sees the open receiver, the guy who delivers the ball on time, gets the team out of a bad play, the guy who doesn't panic under pressure. These and a hundred other things are what "winning the team" means. It means the guy for whom the team functions better as a whole. It's not the common assumption around here that they're playing harder for one guy than another. Many times, the reverse is true. It's an intangible and it oftentimes doesn't even show in practice or in the first couple of games. The team's "vote" is in how they play - not how they feel personally about a particular quarterback...

Obviously Blake is not currently of the mindset this program needs. Whether it be self doubt, bitterness towards Bama, and/or selfishness if his only out, in his mind, is to pick up and leave mid-season then goodbye. Distractions are a very bad thing. If it is self doubt best of luck with a new start and hopefully he will learn something about the importance of commitment.

Yes, the three most crisp in route throws of the year. Did you see the one to O.J last week? Anyway this has turned racial when its really pocket pass spread the wealth vs dual threat with more of a work load over a season. Rest assure I will post the throws, but in typical fashion they will be deemed meaningless.

To all us a little sad to see him go, not angry to see Blake go......its not to do with black and white, more to do with pocket vs dual threat. Zow over Watts in my book!

The chances of Jalen getting hurt is 50% greater than Coker imo. That is why is stings.

Note - I'm not saying any of what follows applies to Blake Barnett. I have no insight there. I am merely reacting philosophically to the "best guy" statement above.

I assume that by "best guy" you mean the one with the most talent. If so, that's certainly one way to go about it.

Rockne, Bryant, Wooden (wrong sport, I know), Holtz, Saban et al. chose to go about it the other way, emphasizing team over raw talent. Rockne said something along the lines of, "I don't play my 11 best; I play my best 11." He knew that the synergy from having 11 men pulling together as a team was more powerful than an outstanding talent that couldn't be a team player. In fact, such talents without a team-centric mentality tend to be toxic, inflicting at least as much, if not more, harm to the team than the benefit their talent provides.

I hope so. I do not even think in that way. I like them both. I am mad as everyone else to see one of greats leave. I hope to find out more the next few days. Maybe he will stay, who knows.

Kind of like Namath and Stabler. I wish there was more separation between them.

In my perfect fantasy world. I would have wanted to see Blake 2 years and Jalen 2 years. But back to reality, doesn't work out that way. But if not for the respect of Blake, I doubt we would see 30 pages. Unfortunate and I hope he changes his mind. BOTH are superior to the others. Or were.

Back to sleep. I have to get up and drive 10 hours to St. Simons Island tomorrow to see folks. This has disrupted my sleep!
