Nothing says Braves more than (re)-signing an injured 36-yo pitcher to an $18mm contract

Sale's ERA was pretty great (2.68) in 2025 and his 2024 Cy Young probably got him the extension, but what will he do in 2026? That's the key question.

The Atlanta Braves have exercised their club option on left-hander Chris Sale, who will make $18 million in 2026, a source confirmed to ESPN.

And Anthopolous invokes The G.O.A.T. in explaining expectations...

"(Making the playoffs), that's just a standard that we've set here," Anthopoulos said. "And that's a credit to Snit, to Bobby Cox, to (former general manager) John Schuerholz that have set the standard here. You know, you guys like Nick Saban, the standard is the standard, and it is. We expect to be in the playoffs year in and year out. So, you know, this is a real responsibility, and we owed it to make sure that we left no stone unturned and were as thorough as we could be, even if it was someone that was already internal."

Let's hope that Anthopoulos, Weiss et al. uphold the standard and improve on it by actually winning a series or three once they get to the playoffs.

Ozzie Albies will be back as well. You know the guy that sucked most of the year and then when it didn't matter anymore started playing better. That guy is back.

For a smart guy, Bobby Cox never once learned you need a lights out closer to win it all.
He had it that one year when Wohlers converted 25 of 29 saves.

But he died the night Leyritz took him deep to tie Game Four of the World Series, too.
