Same reason Saban meets with so many coaches before big games. We once had bob Stoops come in before a Natty. This is pretty common.
No, that can't be it.

... an interrogation perhaps! Seemingly cruel, of course, because we already know the answers we are prying from him, but not unjust, given his knavery.

You think Kelly is looking to be an OC? Not happening if this is what you meant.
Yup..He would have many schools to choose from in college football if he wants back in..No way in hell is he going to be a OC for another coach..Not when he can be his own boss at some of the Top Schools in college football if he goes that route..

Don't y'all know that anyone coming to visit Nick Saban is going to make news? That is especially true right here before our appearance in the National Championship Game. If I were an axed coach looking for a new job why not head to Tuscaloosa this week and create a buzz? Perception is reality you know...

Guys... simmer down. It was rumored that he was down there to consult with Saban and the staff about the game plan against Clemson. It's very possiblity you could see new winkles within the system on offense or defense. Chip could provide insight on some things that the staff may have missed. I seriously doubt it was for OC job. Chip really wants to stay in NFL if possible. HE can always sit out a year and wait for jobs to open up. (Texas, LSU, etc )

I still don't know why everybody is so convinced that Coach Kiffin is leaving.
I can promise one thing. If we hang about 45 on Clemson and win the national title, he's not going to be ushered out the door, at least I hope not.

Exactly, and no way Chip is coming here as OC, I think he would take a HC position in the NFL or college first. He made some personnel mistakes in the NFL, and from what I hear will be given another shot if he wants. His presence just shows that Coach Saban is keeping a healthy relationship with the elite's, which Kelly is imo.

Do you think the majority of these posts are serious? They're tongue-in-cheek.

Back to what I asked earlier, would make sense for Chip to talk to Lane. Think about the other QBs on the roster - Barnett, Bateman, and Hurts.

Maybe he was letting Kelly scout his defense for weak points. Things that might be attacked.

I would see some benefit to talking to Kiffin about wrinkles he could throw in with our QBs. Also so Kelly could gauge Kiffin's suitability for and interest in an NFL OC job.

Main benefit for our team, though, would be insights into what defensive tactics he found to be difficult to counter.

One thing a lot of people overlook -- Saban and Smart have exponentially sped up their ability to substitute defensively. They can get defenders in and out so fast that even when the opponent goes HU, we can still get down-and-distance situational specialists in.

That's happened since Kelly went to the pros, so he may learn something himself.

?
Kiffin could be an OC in the NFL without Kelly. My gut says, from reading and looking at his career, that Lane likes college football. Does Lane want college or the NFL? If wants the NFL, the door is wide open as an OC. If he wants to get another big time college job, there is no better place to be.....and he said as much 2 weeks ago.
