CFN Bama preseason guesstimate

Nick Saban predicts Georgia vs Texas for the SEC. Probably trying not to appear biased at Media Days. Or he really believes that.
I my mind, he’s doing like he always does and that’s sending a message to the team through the media. He may be correct with his assessment but he’s challenging this team at the same time

Call me a horrible person, but I no longer care about winning the SEC. It’s meaningless now, just like in basketball. 10-2 and in the playoffs every year suits me just fine.

Everyone has his own opinion, but an SEC title is a very close second to a national title for me. Beating UGA for the SEC was the clear highlight of the year last year for me.

I agree, but it just doesn't have the same meaning it used to. If we win the national title consistently, I honestly don't care if we win the SEC again.

I thought the same thing.

CNS knows there are just 2-4 teams that might could win the SEC. It makes sense to not seem like a homer out of the gate.

Because of the expanded playoff. If we win the SEC but fail to win the title, it just doesn‘t have the same shine.
Not trying to be argumentative, but I don’t see the correlation.

The expanded playoff will likely make it harder to win a NC than in the past.

So why would winning the SEC be less important than in the past?

If he said it, he believes it. His reasoning was very solid.
I would have to agree. On offense it starts at QB. Texas returns Ewers and Georgia returns Beck. Yes both had losses on offense at skilled positions but you expect that UGa (recruiting) and Texas (recruiting & portal) have done pretty good jobs filling gaps. And defensively both should be solid.

Plus you have to give an edge to both over Alabama in that both have established coaching staffs. Alabama with DeBoer and his new staff have done a phenomenal job (particularly recruiting) thus far on selling his “vision” for the future of Alabama football. And even though CKD takes over a program in much better position than the one CNS inherited in 2007, CKD has his own blueprint. And that draws into question the growing pains that may be associated.

I would say that nothing about college football has the same meaning it used to have. I find it difficult to watch or give a rip about any of it, but as long as I tune in at all, I will always want to win the SEC and national title. You do you, though, brother! Roll Tide!

Decent article, but I disagree on the key game. I say it's Georgia. Lose that one , at home, and we're already playing catch up with only one SEC game under our belts, putting UGA in the driver's seat for the SEC title.

I think this is exactly the case. Coach is talking to his team like he always has. Predictions are irrelevant anyway so he is using his as a tool to challenge the team. Good for him, and us.

Or . . . hear me out . . . he actually thinks Alabama is a 9-3 team and isn't sending any messages to anybody.

Did 2014, 2016, 2018, 2021, or 2023 feel like successful seasons to you? Certainly not to me after we failed to win the title. The expanded playoff means too many undeserving teams get in, which makes a conference championship less special. Now, winning the SEC would feel the same as it does in basketball. It doesn’t mean anything if we don’t win the whole thing.

Always fun to read these pieces during talking season. The key to the season for me is the selection of the QB. Job is Milroe's to lose but jury is out whether he can see the field better than last year. If not, need to get Simpson in there early and often to hit some of these 5 star receivers running wide open. Hopefully our ground game will help both signal callers. Top transfer in is Proctor. There is no key game given this is a new staff. At Whisky, home vs Dawgs, at Ucheat, at Corndogs and at Sooners are all key games. The rest of the schedule is manageable and that includes barney whom I expect we will ROLL at home this year. "Yeeeeeesh" is absolutely correct for this schedule but every other SEC team is facing the same thing. If I had to predict I would say 2 losses but I don't so I will say one LOL.
