I'm halfway through the Georgia Michigan game and I'll say this of Georgia wins:

$1 bet for whoever wants it: the expansion for the CFP will start in 2025. I don't know when it will be announced. But it will start with the 2025 season. Twice in 3 years the same 2 SEC teams play for the championship? The pleebs are going to lose their minds.

They can expand it - they probably will - but reality is the eventual CFP game will be the same regardless. The double-digit wins in the semis shows that more often than not even the #4 ranked team has no business being there...

The PAC-12, Big-12, and ACC will determine. It’s the only way they can even remotely imagine themselves in the playoff.

Even if the CFP is expanded to 8 teams, or 12, or whatever, it’ll only result in more SEC teams at the end.

Let’s save them the trouble, and start a 128-team playoff around October 1 (only pale blue font there). It would solve all the access issues that the wannabes have. And we’ll end up with the same finalists we’ve always had.

Unless Harrison Bargeron does indeed live.

So ; what is the case for having 12 teams in the playoffs? More blowouts? The average loss for the semi-finals, before today, has been 21 points?

Well, four years - the game was in January, 2018. I was thinking the 2017 season.
It's been 5 years: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 or 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022. However you want to count the year in which the game is played it has been 5 years. I would refer to seasons, i.e., this year is the 2021 season even though the championship game is played in 2022.

Bro...

Second and 26 occurred on January 8, 2018, which is four years (and two days) from the next CFP Championship Game, to be played on January 10, 2022.

It's four years, not five...

CFP will happen because their is money out there to be made and the bowls are becoming irrelevant.

It's like they keep running 'A Plug' against real Race Horses.
I agree with the idea that they may try to speed up expansions because they want someone other than Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State and maybe
Clemson if Karen can find great coaches...

I agree that once realignment is settled with everyone in their new conference they will look at expansion. The Big XII wants TX and OK to stay until July 1, 2025 or fork over a bunch of money but they are still taking in new members in 2023. Personally, it sounds like a big hassle to have 12, then 16 for two years and then 14, so I’d want to work a deal to get them out then.

They will probably expand in segments but eventually wind up at 16 with every champ getting a bid with six wild cards.

It won’t happen because of money, but they should cut the season back to eleven games. The neutralize kickoffs in the name of safety. But Bama and UGA are playing 15 games and it will be 17 for the finalists in a 16 game playoff.

Or having an all SEC semi final! This year, you could have had Bama, UGA, and Ole Miss possibly making an expanded playoff semi. Can you imagine the SEC haters if something like that happens in an expanded playoff?
