This baffles me. The only state where she seems to have violated a law is New Mexico, and they've said they will not charge her.

As far as restitution to the city for the expenses of the search, she didn't ask anyone to look for her. Since the networks and cable news outlets were what made this such a major story, maybe they should pony up for the search.

Of course she should be charged. She didn't ask anyone to hunt for her? How could she think that they wouldn't? In view of the various disappearances of women and children, surely even SHE would have sense enough to know that her family would call the police, the FBI, and no telling who else. Also, I think she did lie to some official in Georgia, so maybe they CAN charge her with something.

There are enough REAL crimes going on without some zany woman causing the trouble that she did!!! I still say if that man marries her, he's as big of a nut as she is.

Yeah but she told authorities that she was kidnapped and sexually assualted, which is basically filing a false report. Even if she's convicted, she probably wouldn't get any jail time. Just a fine or maybe probabtion.

Ms. Wilbanks..

This lady has been in trouble with the law since she was about 18. She has been slapped on the hand previously. A month or two in jail will do her some good.

The authorities she told this to were in New Mexico. According to the article, those authorities are not filing charges. This woman needs a lot of help, but I don't think that jail time is the answer.

My understanding from what was reported on Fox News when this whole escapade was occurring was that she made a false report to an officer of the law when she called home to speak to her fiance. Apparently a deputy was at the fiance's home (for the purpose of monitering incoming phone calls) and spoke directly with her when she called. She told him the same story she was telling the NM officials at the time, that she'd been abducted. That's where GA has the right to charge her, and I say GOOD FOR THEM!

You're absolutely right Savannah - that's what I heard as well. Today it was reported that she would owe the city $13,000. So probably she'll have to somehow pay that back, and will get some kind of community work for several months. (Just my guess, of course).

Any idiot with walking-around sense would surely know that if they ran out on a big wedding and just disappeared, there would b e a big search for her. I don't think she'll get any jail time, but I hope they make her pay for the search.

And if that guy still wants to marry her, he's an even bigger idiot than she is.

Let's pray they don't propagate.

Agree, Tommy - neither seems to be the sharpest knife in the drawer.

I'd pay good money to see a steel cage match between The Runaway Bride and the SC Mom, live from some local penitentiary.

Do you see Mitchell being involved with the Runaway Bride?

Don't you just know that Matt and Trey are working up a SouthPark episode for her?

Ms. Cartman(talking to the cops on the phone): "Oh... it was some Hispanic guy that kidnapped me."

OJ: "Hey... I'll bet that was the same Hispanic guy that killed Nicole and Ronald."

Gary Condit: "Hey... it was probably the same Hispanic guy that killed Chandra Levy."

Patsy Ramsey: "We found a sombrero in our house. Probably from the same guy... wouldn't you say John?"

John Ramsey: "Yep... the same guy, I'll bet."

Jesse Jackson: "He was also UP here in the great city of Chicago... 'impreginating' beautiful African-American women... telling them that he was me."

Al Sharpton: "He was also in New York... taking beautiful young African-American girls... spreading fecal matter on them... making false accusations against our FINE, FINE law enforcement personnel and then putting on a fat suit and claiming to be me."

LMAO, that's hilarious.
