Alabama didn't win a national title in 71 or 72 and had a three-loss season in 1976. The Tide won one national championship 1966-77 and had two basic .500 seasons in there. I'd be inclined to actually call 1960-1981 a dynasty all on its own, but given the parameters, I can't.
And yes, I know we got hosed in the polls.

I know you are very good with numbers and statistics but as far as the '70s go Bama won 103 games with 3 NCs and should have been a 4th in '77. OU won 102 with a couple of NCs.
Also I think Miami's run should have been between 83-92 with 4 NCs. This is all good discussion but we all pretty well know who has the greatest dynasty and it is currently going on as we speak.
As far as Clemson goes, we need to wait a few years and see how it actually turns out.
You can't have a dynasty in the middle of someone else's dynasty. By every measure, Alabama is in the midst of a 13 year dynasty. Teams win championships in the middle of these things, but unless they end the dynasty of the reigning team, they have no claim.
For Clemson to go down like this has to put a smile on everyone’s face in the ACC. Either way, that league is trash. Wish Vandy could go and join them.

Fans here can’t be saying “but 71-79 Alabama” when Oklahoma won consecutive titles, Nebraska won consecutive titles and USC won 2 in 4 years and 3 in 6.
