Clemson's next head coach ???????

Re: clemson's next head coach ???????

francione almost ruined the aggies program , but those gomers deserved it.

wierdest bunch in the country with all of their silly ... traditions

Re: clemson's next head coach ???????

we'll have to see how vandy does down the stretch, but if Bobby Johnson is smart and they offer, he'll get while the gettin' is good. I know Schiano is rumored to be holding out for psu, but you don't hear his name much anymore after that one miracle season they had.

Johnson is great for a mid-to-lower tier team, and clemson suits that bill of a mid-tier team.

Re: clemson's next head coach ???????

I heard that Clemson has always been Mack Brown's dream job ;), what with the lake and everything! Just a different shade of orange than UTx so he can keep his wardrobe and just tell everyone it's been washed many times and begun to fade.

Re: clemson's next head coach ???????

A lot of rival fans believe that throwing money around will get the attention of "Saban-level" coaches. It won't.

Guys that are at the level of Saban, Richt, Meyer, etc are not looking for more money, IMO. They have huge egos, they want to win championships, they want their legacies to be on the level of guys like Bryant, Paterno, Bowden, Osborne, Royal, Dooley, et al. They are NOT going to take a job at a program where they don't have excellent name recognition and ready access to top talent.

Saban knows that at Alabama, the name recognition and reputation will give him a huge boost in pulling in top-level recruits. He also knows that he'll have all the financial support that he'll probably ever need for facilities and equipment so that he can develop those recruits as well as any other program in the country. He's got the best situation possible for putting his coaching legacy on the fast-track. He might be able to win more games at other schools in weaker conferences, but he won't be able to win championships at other programs like he can here.

will they make a run at saban ?

no flame intended , just curious , he's one of the best.

No way, no how. If they contact CNS he will just tell them he is not interested. CNS has said he is not going anywhere and he wants to retire at Alabama. Clemson is not Alabama, no matter what kid of salary they are offering.

Re: clemson's next head coach ???????

On a serious note.

I think they take a look at Bobby Johnson and Will Muschamp.

How old is Bobby Johnson? And he has benefitted greatly from a good start to the schedule. USC had QB problems when they played South Carolina - Ole Miss committed 6-7 turnovers and was still in a position to win late in the game - Auburn, well you know about Auburn. Then they lost to lowly Miss State....

Will Muschamp is a temp job though(IMO). If he wins then UGA will pick him up once Richt moves on or retires. That could be 10+ years though. Muschamp is a UGA alum.

Auburn will look hard at Muschamp too. if TT is gone. TT is a good coach though, great on defense - they need some offensive identity.

Some hotheads(lowder) may make a jerk reaction in order to get Muschamp. This jerk reaction may have already happened at Clemson.

Other coaches.

Chris Peterson (Boise State)- if he wants to get some roots in the south. ACC is good trainging ground. Pay raise
Mendenhall - same reasons.
Edsall - Same reaons.
Schiano - Rutgers is in a rut. ACC is a step up gets more selling points at Clemson than he does at Rutgers.

Just outside the cusp - Mich State Dantonio - from South Carolina. Doing good job at Mich State. But he could probably hold out, win more at MSU, then get a great job somewhere.

Some of these coaches may want to wait and see what happens to JoePa.

We can't really say too much about losing to "lowly" MSU until we get that "2 year losing streak" monkey off our back.

I have it on good authority* that Mack Brown is gone for Clemson. He may not wait for the end of the season, out of fear of letting the Clemson job slip away.

HUH? That has to be the dumbest question I've heard in a while. Uhhh, yeah, we know he is one of the best, and we are quite aware of our tradition and championships as well. I would hope you are among the top 3 powers in the nation before you even try to SMELL CNS's cologne, much less make a run at hiring him. :conf2: A REAL guess at the coach? If not johnson, I see Holtz from ECU becoming popular soon.

Clemson signed Bowden to a contract through 2014 with an annual salary in the $1.8 million range. Vandy is paying Bobby Johnson $1.5 million. It could be a good fit and definitely in the same price range.

Saban's not going anywhere. He'll retire at Alabama, regardless as to who contacts him, UNLESS he stumbles royally along the way and he's fired, but at this point, he'd have to plummet to a level Shula, Dubose, and Price couldn't touch.

I say Clemson should make a run for Tuberneck, just for giggles.

Well, they're going to pay Bowden through the rest of the season and then a 3.5 buyout on top of that, which leads me to believe:

A. They've put out a lot of money already and may be looking for a good bargain coach (up and comer maybe)

B. They're ready to make a true change in the direction of the program and have their wallets out making blank checks to get rid of Bowden and bring in a really high quality proven winner

Either way, its going to be interesting to see how this plays out.

I wanted to add my .02$:

The biggest reason why Saban won't be leaving Alabama is............age. In two weeks Nick will be 57 yrs young. And I don't care who you are as you get older moving becomes more and more of a burden. I venture out on a guess and say Nick prolly has no intentions of moving again. Thus I don't Saban a job tha is consider a step or three down from Alabama on the football hierarchy.

With that said, Saban's resume is the prototype of what a coach's resume is and should be. Kent State to Syracuse to WVU to Ohio State to Navy to MSU to Houston Oilers to Toledo to Cleveland Browns then back to MSU then to LSU to Miami and then to Alabama. And in every instance, IMO he went for a better job. You don't leave a school like Alabama to go to a school like Clemson. USC, sure. Notre Dame, Ok. OU, you bet. Clemson no. And my guess Bammer haters will start those rumors, but I seriously doubt Clemson will even ask for permission to chat with Nick.

With that said, it would behoove Clemson to look out Bobby Johnson, instead of chasing a pipedream like Saban.

Saban wont leave Bama for Clemson

Obviously Dabo is getting his audition but the early specualtion is that Muschamp, Lane Kiffen, Gary Patterson, B Johnson, Jim Grobe are the early candidates.

I don't think Bobby Johnson will take the job after thinking about it. I posted earlier there is only about $300K difference in the salaries. There are probably other incentives Clemson would offer but expectations are so much lower at Vandy it almost makes sense to stay and not have the ulcers the Clemson job would bring.

I think Clemson can do better than Dabo. The last Bama alum Clemson hired they ran off, Danny Ford.

Muschamp might come but I doubt Kiffen would.
