Plenty of A$M fans in the Dallas Metroplex.

After living there 7 years here's my assessment:

1. They are usually pretty nice folks. They are typically pretty normal until you change the conversation to anything to do with TAMU then they start getting kinda weird.
2. They are extremely loyal to each other; almost to the level of cult loyal. Go to an Aggie funeral and they'll usually give their signature "Whoop" yell a few times. When living among them, you quickly learn not to give a "thumbs up" to anything or else you'll be identified as an Aggie.
3. Speaking of cults, go to a game and just watch 'em. Strange stuff. But the experience is worth it. Probably the nicest stadium in college football.
4. For six years when we'd beat the snot out of 'em they'd smile and squirm and be respectful, but they acted like they should have won even though we typically blew them out. The one time they finally convert in the last 7 years they were very, very full of themselves. They weren't rude, but just obnoxious.
5. Did I mention loyal and strange? While I'm no longer living among them, you can rest assured they are rallying around Jimbo and they are reassuring themselves that last year's win means they are going to control the SEC from now to eternity.
A friend of mine lived out there for a few years……….. he used to say everything is bigger in Texas, even the arrogance and egos

This is why I wish Saban had not said anything, even if he is right. In the current culture climate you are either with us or racist. If you speak out, even in the slightest, against players being able to be paid, your are vilified.

Also, and this has been said a number of times in this thread and been vilified by most but... There are a bunch of naive Bama fans that are kidding themselves if they think Bama can compete with the big money schools if this turns into an arms race to pay players. I don't think this was a normal "Saban warning CFB that he will abuse this as well" but more of a NCAA must stop this because he knows Bama can't keep up money wise.

I've seen comments like "not all those billionaires and millionaires in Texas want to donate to players". Well, the same can be said about the millionaires in AL and we start out with fewer in the state. "Oh, but what about all the graduates who no longer live here" some say. You think all graduates in Texas stay in Texas? That doesn't change the discrepancy, we still have less. Then some bring up Tim Cook but he has shown no interest in becoming an Auburn booster. There have been some TF voices saying all long that a NIL money race will not benefit the schools in AL. We just don't have the same kind of money pool in this state.
Saban doesn’t oppose kids being paid. Saban opposes kids being paid to go to a certain school. That’s what 8&4 and Prime did. Hunter signed a deal with a black businessman owned collective days after National Signing Day. I imagine the same happened at 8&4. This is what Saban opposes, not kids getting paid. It’s not his fault people can’t understand.

I wouldn’t expect anything less than 99.99999999% of Aggie fans to defend Fisher and rally. It’s the human nature of CFB fans.

They’re still wrong, though.
I have nothing against A&M fans, but seeing them defend Jimo by pointing out Texas also bought recruits is just silly. They do understand the problem isn't that they used NIL to buy recruits, but that NIL is being used to buy recruits, right?

Understand, the average Aggie fan isn't funding NIL contracts. The average Aggie fan is just blindly loyal. If Jimbo said the sky was green they'd say "Gig 'em."

It's the Oil Tycoons that Jimbo is letting run wild so he can claim he doesn't really understand it. Jimbo be like, "If you get me 7 five stars a year, I don't need to understand it."

Yeah, but there's one big difference in Texas...you're supposed to play "mah boy" when he goes to your school - even at the expense of 5-star whomever.

That's why even though, yeah, they can overpay us at the bar, they may not be able to get the girl home as successfully because pride, ego, and nepotism enter into it in Texas more than anywhere. GRANTED - this is a bigger problem for Sark than for Firsher, but it's still a reality in Texas, too.

Beyond that, the average Aggie fan is so desperate to be something other than mediocre, to win, well, ANYTHING - that they'll support whoever appears to have any answer. No player on their team was alive when they last won a conference title (nearly a quarter-century ago).

The desperation to be more than Texas 8&4 is real.

Except for the part about the conference title - you just literally described Auburn to a tee. And 8-4 team (annual average) that as a fan base largely pretended the Cam Newton saga was okay because winning and showing them rednecks from Tuscaloosa we can win was more important than anything else.

(I accept the reality that CFB has always been a dirty, under-the-table business INCLUDING Alabama. But this whole "national championships aren't real things, oops, they are" was pretty much the ATM/Auburn parallel).

Whataboutism. Jimbo beating the table with his shoe would have fit well.

Saban was talking about the a recruiting collective you , however, are describing a different type of collective. Is tam a lesser advanced and evolved cro-magnon borg? Did you see any cubes in your time amongst them. Do you have painful flashbacks? Are there really aliens among us? 🤔😳😂

Except even Auburn has been able to reach the pinnacle in the lifetime of current players. And did so in a real football division / conference.

I doubt anyone alive actually remembers ATMs last NC.

Yup.
The guy that owned the Ford dealership in my area played center on the Aggie's NC team. He's been dead for 17 years.
