Coaching carousel 2023-24

Does he even have the same DC as he did that season? Like ca said, that was Sark dialing up the mismatch. Which 2020 opponent of ours DIDN'T have those busts? Notre Dame, maybe?

He's corrected the "unexplainable loss" syndrome they had when Urban was there. He's only lost in his biggest games. That's not "choking," because he's also won his share of big games, too. Expecting guys to win every game fans have "circled" is evidence of what national fans criticize Bama fans for, it's irrational and unreasonable. The list is small (extremely small) of first-time HCs who would've had the same level of success thus far

Im not certain another way to describe blowing a two score lead im the fourth quarter in a semi final against stetson Bennet other than choking.

If I ever find a bama fan that isn't unreasonable or irrational when it comes to winning championships ill let you know. Thats the standard. Its a curse and a blessing but its in our nature.

Day is a very good coach, among the best in college with Saban and Harbaugh gone, but yea I'm unreasonable and i do expect a coach with all the talent in the world, a world class staff and university to have closed the deal at least once. Especially when he didn't have to build it from rock bottom.

He will probably get there, has many years to do it unless the NFL comes calling.

Kirby also inherited a gold mine and didn't win it all until his sixth season (which will be next year for Day).

I just cannot believe we're talking about a 56-8 P5 coach that was a missed FG away from also blowing TCU out to win it all in his fourth season as HC and there are people who don't think he can get it done.

Just blows my mind.

I am very happy with Ryan Day. But I agree that he has to beat Michigan and go far in the CFP this year or he is likely gone. Not because he would deserve it, but because OSU fans are as impatient as Alabama fans.

Imagine if Georgia had fired Smart after 5 years?

So what does Bob leaving and Chip k. coming in do for Julian Sayin? Sayin was in a good spot with Bob, but I think Air Nolan is more of a chip Kelly QB.

Especially with Mike Vrabel available and Luke Fickell would come back to Ohio State if given the opportunity I would think. I think he has to beat Michigan and get to semifinals at least to keep the job. Fair or not. Seats get really hot when boosters and other are putting out millions to win.

Ryan Day’s biggest problem is the three consecutive losses to Michigan. With the kind of money that program spends - and the (relative) upheaval going on at Michigan - I’m not sure the OSU brass would tolerate a fourth straight loss to their biggest rival. That feels like a “must win” for Day in 2024.

I think Day is a very good coach. It’s not as easy as it sounds to be handed the keys to a well-oiled machine and not run it into the ditch. Ask Larry Coker. Handing over playcalling duties is probably a wise move for him, but I think he’s done a very good job as a recruiter / program manager, and as others have pointed out a 56-8 record in just over 5 years at a major P5 school is pretty impressive.

All of that said, Harbaugh lost five straight to OSU before he finally bested them, so who knows.

Make this make sense. Is this hire by Ohio st. any better than the Bill O’Brien hire? I think this is bad decision #2 by Ryan Day and evidence that he may not last long with the buckeyes!

clicky for story

I guess they are not too delusional since it happened. I wonder if this was done on Kelly’s part thinking I either win the championship next year as OC and better head coaching job opens up or if we lose Ryan O’Day gets fired and I might have the inside track to get the head coaching job at Ohio State and have all the talent and money available that I don’t have at UCLA.
This is nuts and I’m wrong a lot so oh well haha. From what my ucla fan friends told me today ucla is not going to be doing much in the way of NIL and aren’t very supportive financially of the football program. Guess he saw they weren’t going to do very well in the big 10 and bolted before he got fired
