Coaching carousel 2025-26

I don't think it matters if we get a good hire and the NIL is right for the players. Due to board policy I'm not even going to to touch upon his sideline interviews and his expressions on the sideline. The guy can coach, but I'm gonna need more than 9-3 and barely making the playoffs.
Playoffs!!! While I hope we are in the postseason, I have some concerns about being selected, even with a win against the barn. As things stand right now, the playoff committee would have to choose five SEC teams for us to get in. There is no guarantee that they are willing to pick that many from the SEC and endure all the negative comments for favoring this conference.

That Matt Ruhle extension looking like a solid move by the People of the Corn. Iowa 40 Huskers 16 in the season finally….

Nebraska has to realize they need consistency and I think Ruhle has stabilized the program. They have to realize their ceiling is limited as well, nobody else is likely to do much better out in the cornfields.

Well, until they attract a billionaire family to start contributing to NIL. Players go to green these days no matter the landscape around the school.

Actually we do… just not as publicly available due to the reasons why. He wasn’t and will never be as long as the powers that be are still in charge with CNS in as some sorta advisor. He has burned way too many bridges here that it’s crazy that he still thinks he has a shot here. The Joey freshwater saga is the more milder issues he had here to give you an example of what was going on.
Oh yes, I remember. He certainly burned all the bridges here. You are right. As long as CNS retains influence with the PTB, Kiffin will never be at Bama again. With that said, I do believe he has matured somewhat since he created such a mess with us.

I had a free Sirius radio weekend, so got to listen to some national sports talk radio. There is some persistent talk about DeBoer and Ped State. It ludicrous, but they wouldn't shut-up about it and to double down on the stupidity they incessantly talked about Kiffin to Alabama. Where do these morons come up with this crap?

They say this kinda stuff cuz it’s off the norm and people like us listen to it. As ridiculous as it may sound someone along the way will hit on a guess and make a name for themselves, however short lived it might be. Silly Season gets Silly Clicks every time.

Being reported that Florida has moved on in the Lane sweepstakes, it's between LSU and Ole Miss, I believe he stays put

I've never been that convinced that a Lane hire would be all that great for us (Florida). Too much drama - trolling - plus I'm not so sure other head coaches wouldn't do a better job.

Give me a magic wand and I would pick Kirby Smart. As much dislike & disgust as there is for him here and at Florida - the guy knows how to coach and win games. The negative for me is the off-field incidents by their players. A lot of that, I think, is a direct reflection of the program.

If we couldn't get Coach Smart my second choice would be Ryan Day.

I realize these two coaches are not currently "on the market" - but I would still go after them hard, were I the Ad at Florida.

As for kiffin and Sumrall

I say it’s more likely that he stays at Ole Miss, but I’m saying 55-45 type of feeling. If he spurs LSU I fully expect Sumrall to be their top target.

Florida just lost their two top targets. I think it’s unclear where they go next but their hirings have been very lackluster over the last 40 years aside from 2 guys so they need a big catch in the worst way

I agree with this. If he stays then Sumrall would likely be LSU's prime target. Not disputing elevating Durkin to HC at auburn, but IMO that would be a desperation hire to keep the existing staff and players. Grolesh the HC at USF, if he is still available, would be someone for Florida to at least talk with. Need to replenish my supply of Orville Redenbacher.

Golesh is reported to be going to Arkansas.

He'd be a solid hire for Florida, otherwise.

How crazy is this; a coach at Tulane who is 9-2, lost to Ole Miss by THIRTY FIVE and UTSA by TWENTY TWO (at home) is getting to play Ole Miss/LSU, Florida, Auburn, Arkansas in a bidding war???
He has got to be pinching himself.
Ain't America great!

Feels like this to me.......

yep. it really is gambling because you just don't really know. Look at the pros and the failcons. They passed on Mike Vrable and Ben Johnson. Both of these guys have their teams in 1st place. These coaches like Golesh, USF might be his ceiling and he could be a failure somewhere else.

I’m happy Kiffin finally matured. In a mere 9 years he went from a “towel snapping self absorbed 17 year old” to a 50 year old doing hot yoga every morning. And I will always believe he would have crawled from Oxford to Tuscaloosa two years ago for the Alabama job.

Sometimes it’s important to remember “the face you slap today might very well be attached to the fanny you need to kiss tomorrow”.

All hires are a gamble. When a coach gets fired, it is funny to dig up his hiring thread and see everyone singing his praises about how he is going to get it done.
