Coaching carousel 2025-26

He could tell the truth instead of using "making a tough decision" as a cover for leverage

-- -- -- -- --
"I'm sorry the NCAA has put us all on such a stupid calendar. If you want me to be the coach at LSU, you're gonna want me to finish what I start. That's what I'm gonna do for these players at Ole Miss. If you can make that work, I'd love to be your coach. If not, I understand and wish you the best."

LSU & Kiffin are both convinced that they're the BEST (not "better" or "upgrades") ... thus they create false urgency that the majority of the sane world can spot and can't stand

When the Buccaneers or Cowboys come calling in 3-4 years, we already know how he'll handle it
but he prayed about it /s

I got 3 years until Lane Kiffin begins having talks with Texas.

If Sark takes off for the pros and Texas calls Kiffin then we’ll have more drama in Jan-Feb ‘26

Texas is arrogant and desperate enough to throw even more $ and ego feeding adulation his way.

Kiffin is such a narcissistic sociopath he would entertain it before even coaching a game at LSU

The sinister side if me wonders if Saban advised Kiffin to take the LSU job knowing full well how he would handle it. And then recommending that CPG get the OM HC job. We all know that Saban liked CPG and I suspect right now that Saban is providing every resource to CPG to help him get off to a good start. He has done this for many of his coaches in the past. That's how CPG ended up as DC at OM with CLK. CLK was told who to hire for DC at OM.

A good bit of what has transpired the last few hours has actually been in the works for a few years. Favors are being cashed in all-around to be sure. Sexton is the agent for CNS, CLK, and CPG. But I dont think Sexton is the one playing chess here...

This did cross my mind a bit.

But to CNS’s credit I don’t think he’s that vindictive.

He seems to be able to forgive both Kirby and Lane for stabbing him in the back in differing ways.

Hodges is the one probably the best, he helps in recruiting, very good recruiter I've heard, but like has been said, upgrades for all these guys
He is going to OSU as the GM according sources on various media outlets. No doubt he learned a lot from Courtney Morgan who is proving to be one of the best in the business.

He'd call Bill Belichick for advice on what to do. LOL!

He took the job and validated every criticism that has ever been levied against him. Yes, Kiffin is absolutely to blame.

You have a team in the playoffs and you want to leave for that corn dog dumpster fire? There’s no way LSU is the better job right now, especially with the governor involved.

There’s nothing Kiffin can do at LSU that hasn’t already been done, other than not win a national championship at a school that the ogre did.

He has Ole Miss in uncharted waters and would be their Bear Bryant at his current trajectory.
I’m really feeling like there may have been things Kiffy wanted at OM and couldn’t get. LSU came in promising the moon and things they can’t get but Kiffy doesn’t know it. Like salaries for assistants and deals for NIL. On top of being the flagship school in the middle of the Louisiana hotbed of talent. When Kiffy figures out LSU is as dysfunctional as agbarn or possibly worse, he’ll regret it.

but hey, he played Bama close once.
That was the infamous bench Milroe, don't start Ty and start the ND transfer who now plays lacrosse.

I know you put it in blue font, but it needs to be said that that game was just about the most unreasonable and tragic think CNS ever did as a HC.
Well I think it's a good hire, and he was my choice at Bama to replace Saban.

That's kind of beside the point. I mean it's nothing but a Kiffin bash thread but it's not based upon much substance. Nobody is saying HOW he could have handled it any better, just that he should have handled it better.

I do think it's absolute non-sense to suggest OM is the same as LSU from an overall program standpoint.

But yeah, whatever.
Dude, you are like a record player saying the same things over and over! Some have answered your question, yet you demand further answers.

How about this: Lane says "no" and decides to stay and coach them through the playoffs - ever how far that is - and deepens his legacy there, which is already record level. He stays a few more years and finally wins a SECC and who knows what beyond and he's their modern-day Vaught.

OR, if he thinks he might be interested in LSU he says to them, I'll talk when our season is over and if not, good luck on your next hire.

Not much difference in those two programs overall. Some might say the barn is a slight step up. It's laughable to try to make an entire argument suggesting OM is on the same level with LSU.

The points being made are counterintuitive.

Kiffin has taken OM to heights never seen before. He is the one responsible for recent success, which has no bearing on the better program overall.

The ones saying that, can't answer my question of how Kiffin could have handled it any better.

So the conversation as been deflected. Saban obviously see's it as a no-brainer as do 99.9% of people who can get past the Kiffin hate and think clearly.

I just don't know why he would recommend LSU to Kiffin, but a few years ago be the absolute #1 reason Bama never considered Kiffin and many on here say will never.

That part absolutely makes no sense.
I’ll repeat what someone else said. If you wanna go, DO IT AFTER SEASON ENDS. Keep your commitment to your players!
Why do you hate Ole Miss? You own a cowbell?
Do you know WHY Kiffin will never be considered at Alabama?

Meanwhile, Penn State is still an open job even though it was the first one on the market.

Seems PSU may be going after the BYU coach.

I'm starting to think PSU may just decide to make interim coach Terry Smith the permanent HC. The early candidates all signed contract extensions with their current teams so there's not many candidates left. When Harbaugh left Michigan they didn't go out and get a big name coach to replace him but instead gave the job to Sherrone Moore who was already on staff, so PSU may end up doing the same and make Smith permanent.
