I'm not familiar with FSU football. I'm assuming this guy is a good hire? Its nice to sse that Saban is already hard at work!

Florida State linebackers coach Kevin Steele was named the 2005 National Recruiter of the Year by Rivals.com. The Seminoles put together the nation's No. 2 signing class and finished strong with five of the top 100 players in the country according to the website - wide receiver Fred Rouse, defensive back Jamie Robinson, tailback Antone Smith, and linebackers Derek Nicholson and Eugene Hayes.

I think it is as good as it gets. Saban is the real DC and Steele will aid in recruiting, but Steele is highly regarded by all that have been with him.

General question about Saban's DC position... I get the impression that Saban likes to make the defensive calls, and the DC position on his staff is a place where CNS can put a great defensive-minded recruiter who wants to learn how it is all done. Is this how Will Muschamp (sp?) was brought up at LSU?

I only ask because I believe this is Kevin Steele's first stint as DC.

What is his connection to Saban?

He has developed some pretty good linebackers at FSU so I think he could be a good hire.

Good recruiter, good teacher (look at his NFL products)...obvious fit for Saban.
