That would be all I would care about in this decision......I wonder if this means EA Sports will bring back NCAA 20**??
For me, the question would be..... based on who's "cost of attendance?"...... Seems like some schools would cost more to attend than others? Perhaps, I'm being too simple minded here....So, the NCAA's cost of attendance move seemed to avert disaster.
Whew. I was hoping they would see it that way.“In this case,” it added, “the N.C.A.A.’s rules have been more restrictive than necessary to maintain its tradition of amateurism in support of the college sports market. The Rule of Reason requires that the N.C.A.A. permit its schools to provide up to the cost of attendance to their student-athletes. It does not require more.”
As an Orlando Magic fan, I don't think Tuscaloosa/Birmingham could really hope to keep up with the big markets if they get to endorsements and the like. As big as Alabama football is, the sponsors and what not can be a little sad as it is. I don't see how they could compete with USC or Texas in terms of that, or even what could be a fully Nike sponsored Oregon team. Alabama just doesn't have any pockets that deep.I don't think this is a positive to anyone but the also-rans and remora programs of the FBS who can't afford to pay their players a decent check. Amateurism is a vague, duplicitous word used to perpetuate a cheap but effective recruiting tool for universities.
That debatable. I think Texas, nd, Texas ATM, and USC have us but really who else are you wanting to factor in. By my estimate we would have deeper pockets than 10-12 sec schools. As an Orlando Magic fan, I don't think Tuscaloosa/Birmingham could really hope to keep up with the big markets if they get to endorsements and the like. I'm for more scholarships, I was always for stipends, I'm for more coaches, I do think things should be done to improve things for the student athletes, but if it goes full open market, I just don't see Alabama holding their elite status anymore.
I'd agree, but how many programs outspending Alabama does it take? I think Alabama would still be powerful, but I think it would knock Alabama from their perch. That debatable. I forgot tOSU, but not buying Oregon. Oregon still would be highly dependent on USC not being up to snuff. With this scenario USC would be up, and that would limit the USC rejects going north. Also Stanford is a nike factory as well.I'd agree, but how many programs outspending Alabama does it take? I'd say Ohio State, Michigan, Texas, Texas A&M, Florida, Georgia, USC, and Notre Dame are some of the programs that could capitalize, just by having stronger overall economic backing. To give one example Alabama is fifth in the conference in terms of their endowment, which signifies the actual economic strength backing a university. Also, I count 38 FBS programs with larger endowments.
That doesn't say everything, but if some of those funds are freed up from graduates to just openly sponsor players, I see Alabama as being behind several programs. Then you have the mega-boosters, which Alabama has none of (they got outbid on a basketball coach from the Koch brothers for example). A few universities (Oregon and Oklahoma St. for example), have guys backing them that are worth billions. If they could just see themselves as owners of an FBS program they could go all Mark Cuba without the cap. I just think how it is now works for Alabama and if you ever took the lid completely off it could hurt a team that ultimately is from a poor economic area.
