Crazy game, but still the worst D

The game has changed before our eyes in the last 2 or 3 years. What does CNS do? You could argue he changed his offensive philosophy and I think that's where we have to stay with someone like Young coming in, but what does he do on defense???

The 24K dollar question. Is his 3-4 O/U outmoded with today’s offenses? I don’t pretend to know. Is Golding simply trying to implement an obsolete system, one that he’s told to implement?

All proven DCs who are 'above average' to 'good' recruiters who have (or will soon have) their weekends free.

But.....people can make money anywhere. Work/life balance, morale, and other things are equally as important, just as it is with the jobs that you and I work. And if a person has options (and they all most certainly will if they are unemployed, including other HC jobs) this may not be at the top of their list. And this brings me to my final point, which is, we may just have to stick with what we have and go through the growing pains with him.

The problem is the freshman linebackers looked just as loss tonight as they did in the 1st game they played in. That looks like lack of coaching to me.

You have a point. I can’t say the LB’s have improved. I do feel Barmore and some of the defensive linemen have improved. Also Battle has improved as a safety.

It is still used in the NFL to defend them, so no. But it requires smart and capable players

Solid point. Probably how we ended up with Golding to begin with.

True, but the guys running it do football as their full time job. Maybe it is just too complex for these kids coming out of high school. I guarantee you the high school coaches water it down a lot to help them play fast on Friday nights.

by a Nick Saban coached team I've ever seen.
Most undisciplined as well.

Rtr.

I think the undisciplined part bothers me more than the loss.
AND
I spent years making fun of games where it was 45 to 48...
Defense was absent.
If we had a shred of our old Defense, it was not on display.

Auburn was a tough team. They played like they had nothing to lose... They didn't.
Auburn was not a great team, but Gus got us to play down on their level.
Sometimes Mac played great, then other times Mac made bad decisions and really bad passes.

Personally I feel like Mac actually played pretty well today... Considering...

Next question... Are our coaches really as bad as they looked today?
OR, Are our players too young and too inexperienced to play Auburn?
I was really disappointed in our DEFENSE. I expected an improvement this year.
We regressed instead of improving. I know we are young, but we can't use that excuse every year.

THEN THERE IS THE 'BOINK' PLAY... Way too many of em this year... That's got to change.

Things that stick out the most to me.
1. Yeah the guys on D were young but lack of speed is a big issue. Can't cover, can't recover, can't make plays on the outside. They'll be back next year with no speed. You can coach away a lot of mistakes.
2. 3rd down defense has been atrocious the last few years. There is something that has to change on third down calls.

Saban's not going to even think about changes in his coaching staff until the early signing class is in the barn. Cannot disrupt any of that.
