Alabama got on the board early before holding the Razorbacks off late

5/25/2022

HOOVER, AL –
Alabama baseball picked up a second win in the 2022 SEC Tournament with a 4-3 victory over 10th-ranked and third-seeded Arkansas on Wednesday evening at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium. The Crimson Tide is now 31-25 on the season and 2-0 in the league's postseason tournament.

Alabama was first on the board with two runs in the second and added one more in the top of the third. The Razorbacks struck for one in the home half of the third with the Tide countering for one in the top of the fourth to make it a 4-1 ballgame after four. Arkansas then narrowed the deficit to one with a two-run home run in the sixth but would get no closer. Alabama's bullpen combined to keep Arkansas off the board for the final 2.2 frames to secure the 4-3 win.

Following the two-run homer, Landon Green entered to record one out. Antoine Jean (5-1) was next, earning his fifth victory of the season thanks to an impressive outing. The left-hander tossed 2.0 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and a walk to go with three strikeouts. Tide closer Dylan Ray shut the door with a strikeout to end the ballgame and notch his eighth save of the season and second in Hoover.

From Head Coach Brad Bohannon
"It was an awesome college baseball game. Fortunately for us, Arkansas helped us a little bit early. To our guys' credit, we took advantage of some mistakes that they made, and, really, the story of the game is that both bullpens were outstanding. There weren't very many hits in the back half of the game. I was really proud of our whole team, but especially those guys that pitched after Jacob McNairy gave us a good start today. Obviously, a big win for us on so many levels. I'm really happy for our kids and proud of them."

How It Happened
  • T2 | The Tide loaded the bases up with one down for Tommy Seidl. The senior grounded a chopper to second that looked like a double play, but Seidl's hustle beat out the throw at first and scored one. The ball got away from the Arkansas first baseman on the play, with the mistake allowing Zane Denton to hustle home all the way from second for another run. (2-0, Alabama)
  • T3 | With runners on second and third, Drew Williamson fouled a ball down the third base line. The flyout allowed Caden Rose to tag from third with a nice slide adding a third run for the Tide. (3-0, Alabama)
  • B3 | Jalen Battles sent a ball over the wall in left-center for a solo homer. (3-1, Alabama)
  • T4 | Seidl came in to score on an errant throw by the Arkansas catcher. He was on third with the bases loaded before an attempt to throw behind him at the bag went into left field. (4-1, Alabama)
  • B6 | Chris Lanzilli cut the deficit to one with a two-run home run to left-center. (4-3, Alabama)
Postgame Notes
  • Dylan Ray picked up his eighth save of the season. Ray's eight saves are the most in a single season by a Tide reliever since Jeremy Randolph had nine in 2019.
  • Ray has recorded a save in three straight appearances.
  • Caden Rose has reached base safely in 16 straight games dating back to April 25 against Georgia.
  • Jim Jarvis has reached base in 14 straight games dating back to April 28 at South Carolina.
Alabama will take a break from action in Hoover on Thursday before returning to The Met on Friday afternoon. The Crimson Tide is currently scheduled for Friday's second game and will face the winner of the Texas A&M/Florida matchup. Fans can catch the game live on SEC Network.
