From a local Knoxville Radio Station..

said "Round the bowl, down the hole, Roll Tide Roll!"

Nothing original which couldn't be expected from the illiterates to our North, but WHY would the Alabama school newspaper run the ad. Surely they don't need $102.00 that much.

If they have no school pride, then they should have no school paper.

Here is one Bama fan that will contact every other advertiser and let them know I will cease business with them if they continue to support this paper.

ROLL TIDE!

Actually, I'm not upset about this at all. Here's why: If anything, this will only provide motivation for the team. Talk about bulletin-board material! An opponent advertises in your OWN school newspaper? Most students at least skim the CW every day while on campus (after all, it's free). You can bet this has a lot of folks on campus talking, and you can also bet the football players are talking too. They probably wouldn't get too fired up over local or regional media advertising like this, but I have a feeling they will take this personal. Just a little more fire for Saturday!.....

I think I'd be more upset over the sheer stupidity of the person who accepted that ad. I'd dang sure encourage them to explore another career path.

Obviously somebody pulled the ad immediately as it's

gone! Somebody in the advertising department allowed this to get through not thinking and as soon as it got to the attention of the editors it was pulled.

It's brutal, no matter how you slice it. Yes, it will get people fired up, but I hardly think that was the intention. It was a money move, pure and simple.

I mean, you didn't see people taking out ads saying "go Osama" in an effort to ignite passion for the war, did you? That's just poor taste, no matter whether it energizes people or not.

The CnW shouldn't have ever considered this one.

Well, something like that should have been caught by the ad manager when they were proofing the ad. Either they didn't catch it, didn't get that it was a joke, or decided to stick by the unversity guidlines for the CW when it comes to ad placements. Should they have rejected it, yes. Do I like it, no. Is it still being run, no. Is it a big raging deal, no.
I think some people are missing what the philosophy behind news print media is and how they run.
"I hope the paper goes out of business real soon and another one that TRUELY supports and loves the tide will be started."
Now thats silly. The CW is a student run paper that gives journalism and other related majors an opertunity to work in the newspaper enviroment and get experience in such a field. It also relays important information about university activites needed for students. They aren't going to shut it down because someone accepted a 1 sentence ad that made people mad for a few days. A lot worse has happened at the CW. And if you think the other 99% of the CW staff doesn't "TRUELY supports and loves the tide", then you don't read it very much. Im sure the student who approved that ad learned a lesson about news-media ethics and common sense. End of issue.

$102.50 to advertise UT's "Round the bowl, down the hole, Roll Tide Roll!" if that is true somebody needs to be fired. I would have pulled the $102.50 out of my pocket and personally advertised "Roll Tide Roll! beat UT."

I just love these maroons who have always said this phrase(sarcasm 101) knowing who STILL own's them.
As far as the orange pukes up in the hills with their fatty cool-aid man/great pumpkin leader; well they got one thing right because all of those "ernge" turd's deserve to be flushed down the toilet where they belong along with the rest of the sewage. I say I second the idea of a collection if we beat them for a full page ad in their crackpot newspaper and for the record when Tommy Gallion nails "ole fat feel" to the wall then I say we buy another ad in it to further explain and embarass their ugly carcasses. Their's only one thing that can cleanse that big pile of ancient crap by the river called Neyland stadium and we know what that is.
Now for the correct phrase: Roll Tide Roll Drown the living hell out of the
"ernge" hell hole. Roll Tide

It's weird that they say they don't reject ads based on blah, blah, blah. I know that there are conservative political ads that have been rejected by the Crimson White. I won't get into the politics of it but I find the ad department policy reasoning on why this UT ad was not rejected flawed.

1. Is that you, Ryan?
2. That's all a Utee boater could muster up to say to me on the lake a couple of years ago--from his houseboat. (Obviously a former utee football player.)

Typical Bama-fan overreaction in my estimation. Nobody's gonna lose their job over that ad, and the paper isn't going out of business, 'cause it's a school paper. Ninety-plus percent of us on here haven't read the thing in years anyways so what's the difference? Yeah, I think it was the wrong decision, but cripes, it's 9 words people--and 9 stupid words at that. If it was something truly hurtful or libelous I could understand cause for outrage, but it's completely harmless.

Put yourself in the CW's shoes. Your'e a struggling campus paper that needs money to keep the presses rolling. Some rival fans want to put $102.50 in your pocket in exchange for a harmless ad that does far more to illustrate the inbredness of those who placed it than belittle its intended target. From afar it's easy to second guess and lambast a group of 20 year olds. If I was in their position, I probably would have made the same decision.

Was it naieve to run an ad that was potentially off-putting to its audience? Yes. Is it worth this much effort to ***** and moan about it? H3ll no.
