D.O.G.E (Department of Government Efficiency) II

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

Musk has a chance to make a difference and do some good. I wish him well and would very much like to see him succeed. Although its still very early, I'm not seeing actions that are very promising. He's using a meat clever when he should be using a paring knife and his boss is still a fool.
The fool got sent to the sidelines and was replaced by one worse than him. Democrats need to do a much better job in selecting candidates. To throw harris in there and pair her with walz was a disaster. You now have the raging Cajun fighting with Stephen A. Good Lord what a mess. Anyone saying that governmental cuts are a bad thing is barking up the wrong tree. People are done with this. The republicans recognized this and the democrats didn’t. Anyone who supports 20 billion for Sesame Street in Iraq needs to sit this one out.

Few say that needed governmental cuts are a bad thing. But as Bamaro noted (and some choose to ignore), cutting programs that do a great deal of good is just as bad to many of us as ending foolish spending. Perhaps those who think that preventing starvation, disease, and death is a waste of money should be the people sitting this one out.

Trumpers and other of his supporters can claim victory all they want. Polls are showing that many of the cuts (and the methods involved) are not popular with most people. And as Elon and Trump continue their careless and cruel rampage, the disapproval will continue to grow.

It was 20 million and not billion... But still your point that we don't need to sponsor children's shows in Iraq is on target. Only about 500k was paid out of the initiative.

I'm sure they'll say they did. You know how you feel about CNBC and the truth? I feel the same way about anything coming from this administration.
After the last 25 years, I’m skeptical of all administrations. This one is doing something that is different from all the others, so I’m watching. Also, the fact that legacy media keeps attacking it only gives it more credibility. It’s baffling to me that they don’t see this.

It could also show that there is something worth 'attacking'.

Donald Trump has not done anything to earn the benefit of the doubt from me. The guy has always acted in his own best interest. The idea of trusting what comes out of this administration is a non-starter for me. I think they'd subvert the Constitution as well as happily take food from the mouths of babies and the elderly without a second thought to accomplish their goals. And sadly, I think there is a significant portion of Americans (mostly MAGA and/or wealthy) who would be just fine with that.

I saw earlier today that Poland reported that they pay Ukraine's subscription for Starlink. Not confirmed from a second source but sounds reasonable.

Mr Musk hasn't proven not to be so accurate with his reported savings and now not so magnanimous either with his reported providing Starlink to Ukraine.

The majority of those receiving government benefits such as medicaid, food assistance and disability benefits live in red states. They are kicking a hornets nest with cut to these programs.

DOGE shared its receipts — and some of them don’t match
“Everyone is very well-aware they’re repeating the wrong numbers,” said one manager at a company on DOGE’s list of cuts.

Elon Musk promised to deliver a “maximally transparent” government efficiency program. What he’s disclosed so far is a messy and inaccurate accounting of his group’s early work.

The first comprehensive public listing of the billions of dollars in purported savings Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency is making across federal contracts is filled with errors, according to a POLITICO review of the published data.

Yall realize Social Security and Medicare are funded by workers? The Republicans want to claim fraud so they can cut expenses of the program to extend an income tax to people who essentially don't pay into the system. This is stealing pure and simple. And people don't realize it. Any fraud savings should be returned into the system to extend the life of benefits to the workers who pay into the system. The programs are independent of the general fund of the federal government.

The Republicans in Alabama are just waiting for David Bronner to die so they can raid the state retirement system funded by employer-employee contributions which is one of the most successful in the enire country.

Agreed.

But the truth lies in there somewhere.

We all know the Trump supporters will agree with all cuts, the opposers will disagree with all.

The truth lies in there somewhere...

Maybe, but this is the danger of crying wolf every six seconds. At a certain point, it doesn’t matter if they’re right or not because no one with a thimble’s worth of brain cells is paying attention to them anymore. That’s what happens when you jettison journalistic integrity for activism.

DOGE will probably break up the support from veterans that the GOP has enjoyed for decades. Alot of VA jobs are being cut and most of them are veterans themselves. Additionally Trump’s plans also call for a reevaluation of VA disability in an effort to cut costs.

Again we are seeing that there are reasons that the first idea that pops in your head is not usually the best when fixing a complex problem

Thank you for the lecture about Social Security. I know full well how it works as I am well versed in governmental accounting. What'll really blow your mind as there literally is no money in the Social Security "Trust" Fund. It's all just IOU's from the general government fund. The only way to "steal" social security would be for the general fund to forgive some of these IOU's and I am pretty sure the Executive branch does not have the authority to do that. If they find savings in the system then it's just going to increase the amount of money available to pay out in the future. There is no direct way to take SSN savings and give tax cuts to billionaires. All they could do would be to lower the FICA tax rate and since billionaires don't participate past the hard cap most could care less about the FICA rate.
