some coaches could win even when losing their top coordinators year over year (Saban)..... Dabo does not have that ability
This right here.

And this is why I was telling people when they won in 2018 that "NOW is the real test." You can keep a cluster of good coordinators together for awhile, you can recruit some stars thanks to one title to help ease your way to a second.

But the reason why nobody wins better than "3 in 4 years" is because the continuity is gone. Even Clemson didn't win 3 in 4 years.

And now, when the school is not only paying coaches high-dollar salaries but is now having to pay players millions of dollars, "be grateful for what you have" and "look at what we've accomplished" fall on deaf ears. It's an outright professional organization dumping a crap load of money into a program that appears to already be out of the playoffs after only three games.
I hope we don't see it happen often, but when teams like that realize they are out of contention.....do they tank?

Clemson has winnable games the rest of their schedule with the exception of that FSU game at home. So they lose that, they'd still be 9-3, but behind FSU and probably Miami.

Hopefully those kids stay together and fight through adversity.

It's possible, but I hope we don't see it. If I'm Dabo, I'm reminding some of them they're playing for the NFL and to put good film out there, and for the others, they're playing for next season or playing to keep their scholarship. Do what you gotta do to keep them engaged and trying.

Those national titles he got against us....he also had pretty solid defensive lines.

2015 - DE drafted in the 1st round....NT drafted in the 5th
2016 - DE drafted 1st.....DT drafted 2nd round......NT drafted 5th
2017 - DT drafted 4th round
2019 - DE drafted 1st round....2 DT's drafted in the 1st round....DE drafted in 4th
2023 - DE drafted in 1st...DT drafted in 1st....DE drafted in 5th
2024 - DT drafted in 2nd...DE drafted in 5th....DT drafted in 6th

He hasn't had them as dominant on the DL or at QB.
That's a fair assessment. Thanks.

Wasn't Lanning the OC and Venables the DC when they were peaking a few years ago?

College football isnt immune to the "what have you done for me lately' epidemic or the immediate gratification crowd. His record speaks for itself

They haven’t looked good. But they could still fairly easily win their conference and make the playoffs. FSU is at home.

The question was whether there was an offensive play against Tech he would like to take back, and Dabo Whiney spent 13 minutes whining about not being appreciated.

I started telling everyone after 2020 that we were about to see the real Dabo - but let's back up a bit...

It took Dabo three years to assemble his dream team and put 'his mark" on Clempson. The next three years (where they lost a total of 2, 2, and 3 games respectively) took the program from good to great. Then, from 2015 through 2020 came Clempson's heyday - a perfect storm of players and personnel (and conference) that saw them average 1.16 losses per year and never lose more than twice in a season.

In 2020, though, that perfect storm started coming apart.

Since then, Clempson has lost 3, 3, 4, and 4 games each season. My prediction - before this season - was for them to lose at least four games this season, probably five.

Dabo caught lightning in a bottle and the program effectively ran itself for a decade. Now that Dabo's really in charge, we're seeing what he can actually do - himself - to run a program...

Love him or hate him Dabo's answer nails it. Coaches can't win for losing in today's climate of instant news, sensationalized headlines, and click bait. It isn't realistic to think that every season will be a national championship caliber season, particularly at a school named Clemson. What he has done there is exceptional and should be viewed as such. In thirty years he will be revered as the greatest Clemson coach of all time and his tenure will be discussed as "the good ole days".

I was thinking to myself recently that Dabo may regret not showing more interest in the Alabama job if he gets run out of Clemson.
The Alabama job is a "we will call you, don't call us" job. Dabo could have put out commercials stating his interest in the job and it wouldn't have made a difference. From what I know of Dabo, if he were have been offered the job, with the right contract, he would have taken it. Alabama has always been home to him and the job at Alabama has always been the prized jewel.

Maybe so, but I'd love to know the details of the phone call between Saban and Dabo right after Saban decided to retire. I can't help but wonder if Saban was testing Dabo at all to see if he was interested. I know Dabo said publicly many times he's happy at Clemson.

Would definitely be interesting to see how that conversation went. As far as any statements he has made publicly about Clemson, if he were to say anything but that he would be an idiot.

I mean... The fact that Dabo has had dominant squads and beat Saban in his prime and is now struggling should help us temper our own expectations of DeBoer. It is a new world...

Under Dabo they are 181-49 (0.78) with most of the losses early on or over the last 4 years.

10 years before Dabo 72-24 (0.61).
72-24 isn’t .61. It’s about 73%
