Dabo loses it on a fan....

But you are talking about the same guy that decided to basically say protesters are evil, that Ohio St should be 11th, that his brother shouldn’t be a news story, maybe we should lose a couple games on purpose to kill the bandwagon, and our sports psychologist is probably on suicide watch after a loss. He is so full of himself that he sees no reason to change how he operates. He is the definition of a self important Karen.

Saban's been thin-skinned about some stuff in the past, but the on-the-field performance was always high enough that people moved on without focusing on it.

Coach Karen Awwshucks is sucking at her job right now and really ought to just own it. You suck at your job, and you're being paid an obscene amount of money specifically NOT to suck.

Do your job or own it - lashing out at someone who correctly points out that you're being vastly overpaid for the results is childish, even if the fan is acting entitled.

Fans aren't paid, coaches are. Shut up and coach or answer the questions like a man.

The original call isn't included in the article or the embedded twitter link to the rant, and it was probably not an appropriate question, but when you're getting paid $11m to represent a major university, going off on a fan for over 5 minutes isn't a good look, especially when you're 4-4....

It may not be such a good look..but that fan was out of line from a common sensual standpoint. I think Dabos response is indicative of his frustration and some missing tools from his championship inventory. Ray Perkins did the same thing. I have heard Ray chastise fans calling in. The year was 1984. His demeanor was always guarded toward fans IMO, but he was right in doing what he did when a 'Here is what YOU need to do' fan made the wrong choice by dumping his uninformed tunnel vision on him. Dabo is at that point. Not a fan of Dabo, so get me wrong. Fans have rights to speak out, but any fan ought to expect a HC to demonstrate fairness, but also to display a willingness to declare how insignificant said fan's opinion is if it becomes personal. Dabo felt that the fan was being condescending. There is an ocean of fans like that. At all school fanbases.

Yeah..Dabo is just Dabo for sure. I guess when it comes to him...careful thought is required.

Here is the thing that Dabo needs to accept if he wants to flaunt these national championships. When you win big games, you create bigger expectations. You can’t be little ole Clemson anymore like he wants to. He isn’t coaching BYU, TCU, or Ole Miss. He is coaching a team that has been with Alabama, Ohio St, and Oklahoma in getting to the playoffs being the goal. So chastising fans for having expectations is stupid and pointless at this point. Yeah there is a line but most of his fans that are worried about the trajectory of this program because of his rigid opinions on the portal and nil aren’t having unrealistic expectations should be achieving.

Mostly agree for now...but that NIL thing is something that will have to be fixed and if not there will be more Dabos out there. But it is a chocolate mess that not every campus can afford. Anyway I agree that Dani won't be someone that I will be happy to see at the HC job at Bama.

He feels that the NIL was and IS a bad idea. He is correct. Especially as it is now. His record....last year and this year IMO is about loss of talent on his staff. His comments were to a fan who has a right to speak out. Dabo has that same right. He doesn't give a rat's **** what I think, but that is how it is. A HC will hear stuff like that. He is under pressure for it. Amongst a lot of other stuff. But he had a right to respond. They just disagree. I am glad that Bama's issues are not as exposed.

That’s a pretty difficult question considering we have had 12 straight 10 win or more seasons, who else can say that? We have two national championships in the last 7 years, who else has done that? Not gonna lie though, no one is more upset about this season than me. However, life is about learning from mistakes and overcoming adversity. My staff and I are going to look at ways to get back on top and I’m not gonna sleep until we are. In the mean time we need fans support in the stadium, because nothing is stronger than our team with our fans behind them”

Maybe something like that dabo….

but he’s not smart enough and will alienate himself

Agree. That is closer to what I am trying to say, but I am ok with a coach putting someone in their place. But yeah...A coach has to own issues and that it why the job description is "Head Coach". Not a Dabo guy, but I have heard him say that he does own failures. He makes a load of money...make some aggressive decisions to correct things. If it is Portal? Revisit the idea. NIL issues remain to be seen because if it isn't fixed...fans will eventually fix it

Which is a testimony to how CNS is handling change and things that he doesn't like and that he can't really control. If we just worry about the things that we control, life is much better. Dabo is letting the things he can't control him and ruin his team.

A couple of personal lessons I had to learn, as I was very much a reactionary “hot head” in my younger days. I took anything and everything remotely critical as a personal attack.

First, I cannot control what others says. I can, however, choose if or how I respond to what is said or stated. Responding the way Dabo did only made him look bad and gave this person the attention they wanted.

Second, what does it matter what some yo-bob from Spartanburg thinks? He’s is not signing your paycheck. You don’t answer to him. All Dabo did was give more credence to this caller’s opinion by going through a five minute rant “justifying” himself to someone that at end of day doesn’t amount to a hill of beans. Simple response “Thanks Tyler for your thoughts. Opinions are like belly buttons. Everyone has one. At the end of the day, I’m the head coach at Clemson. You are not. I’ll answer for my performance and decisions as head coach to people whose opinions more important that yours”.

Finally, I came to understand when dealing with circumstances like this, the less, more concise my language, the better off I am. A thought Dabo needs to consider.

2) Saban doesn’t just personally attack individual fans because they say something he doesn’t agree with. Saban usually addresses fans as a whole in a lot more nuanced way. Saban also realizes that expectations are high because of what he has accomplished and doesn’t feel the need to bring his personal accomplishments as trivial as him getting married into the argument.

This. Especially point #2.

I don't think Dabo started off that bad. But then he got way too personal with this individual fan.
