Dabo loses it on a fan....

Look I get Dabo’s point with fans not being happy with wins. I’ve sold t shirts in Tuscaloosa and been to just about every home game and numerous big time bowl and away games since 2014 and seen what he is saying. I’ve seen Alabama fans come away from wins more feeling that it was expected or complaining about the score. There have been very few feelings like the Tennessee game in which Bama fans came away super excited.

So there is some merit to what he is complaining about. However he is acting like an idiot about it. He isn’t a coach of Ole Miss in which a run happens every 7-8 years, he is a coach of a major college football team , in which like he correctly states he has built, that has an expectation to compete nationally in the playoffs. This “little ole Clemson” nonsense has been dead since 2017 and he needs to seriously drop it. Clemson is now a team with legitimate expectations and the coaches who work there must perform.

But like I have said several times over the last few weeks, Dabo has been attacking his fanbase and is shocked that they are starting to respond in kind. It’s one thing to have this conversation if you are on top but an entirely different thing when you are 4-4 in the ACC.

After listening to him I have to say.....Dabo is 100% right to tell this entitled little band wagon punk off.

Good for Coach Swinney!

============

Clemson’s Dabo Swinney went on an epic 5-minute rant tonight after ‘Tyler, from Spartanburg’ asked him about his $11.5 million salary and 4-4 season. “I’m not gonna sit here and let you, I don’t care how much money I make. You’re not gonna talk to me like I’m 12-years old..”

While I agree wirh Dabo about this kid I do think Dabo is using the fans as a scapegoat. It won't play well to those who actually know football.

I’ve heard Dabo’s answer a few times, but I haven’t heard the question.

I’ve read several articles and sometimes seen the caller referred to as a kid. For those who heard the caller: Based purely on the voice, how old would you estimate he was?

Based purely on this article I'm gonna guess that he's a 29 year old Marine who was born in Greenville and currently lives in Spartanburg...

And this is why I have a huge issue with how Dabo handled it.

He has WAY less emotionally invested than this guy. This guy has been a huge Clemson fan for 24 years. Dabo was helping to tank Alabama at that time under DuBose! Don't get me wrong for a second. I realize how much these coaches invest. Guys like Nick Saban working 16 hours a day and taking one week of actual vacation a year. I get it.

However, make no mistake. Almost all of these coaches are mercenaries. Even humble, little ole Dabo.

The guy has legit gripes. Dabo has handled this like an ass. And now that it comes out that he is a 29 year old marine? Dabo called him an idiot and a kid...

I know who is the real idiot here...

I understand why Dabo got so mad, but when you are in his position you have to rise above the fray. You can't get caught up with someone like this. It makes you look bad to a segment of the fan base and the media. A segment will defend and applaud you, but if you stay above this type of thing then you don't add any fuel to the fire. Just shoulder the load and tell the guy you aren't satisfied either and that you want to earn your money and are going to move heaven and earth to right the ship.

Read the article, and it’s clear it’s a Dabo puff piece. Says Tyler is in the distinct minority, and he (Tyler) is apologizing so hard he’s almost groveling.

Thing is, I think Tyler’s supporters are the great majority of non-Clemson fans.

This is an excellent example of living in an echo chamber.

It really just boils down to this, as crimsonaudio has said several times.

If we are going to pay these coaches 11 million, then losing 4 or 5 games is not acceptable. It's never going to be an acceptable return. This is not the NFL, where you can lose 7 games and still win the Super Bowl. You're going to have to win 10+ EVERY year.

And let's be honest. In college football, you've got at most a 4 or 5 game season! There rest of the games are against total losers that a Clemson or Alabama should win with its 3rd team.

Coach Bryant did not make this kind of money even adjusted for inflation and we know from documented history he would not have responded in this manner. Someone mentioned it but he would have said you are right and I'm working with the AD on getting this fixed (He was also the AD, but I digress).

So, it seems with more money, these guys have thinner skin.

Maybe Dabo ought to reach out to Old Reverend Freeze and let them have a prayer meeting over this situation. Lol

I'm surprised no one has mentioned that once he lost his longtime offensive and defensive coordinators that the wheels on the Dabo bus seem to be wobbly at best. He obviously doesn't have the football knowledge that Coach Saban does.
That was the narrative when he had all those successful seasons and now that he's lost those coordinators he's looked more like the "Clemsoning" years.

Of course, some Georgia folks are saying the same about CNS in regards to losing Kirby, but we've won NC since then an had great defenses under Pruitt after he left.

At one time a few years ago I was on the Dabo train that if CNS retired early he at least deserved a phone call. I no longer believe that now. I think he's processed himself.

In honor of The General…Robert Montgomery Knight…If I saw Dabo today I’d simply say…Hey Swinney…

In his position he can't say what that even if that's what he believes deep down. He's a tool and I hope that we never even consider him coming back in ANY capacity.
