DeBoer Gets Contract Extension and Raise

The case is he got the extension. The people who make that decision think he needed it.

If the extension and raise is what he needed to stay, then I’m glad he got it.

Like it or not, with the money being thrown to players now, Alabama is a mid tier elite job, maybe not even mid tier . It’s missing the most desired aspect that players seem to want: stupid amounts of cash.

I’ll say it again for the thick skulls: DeBoer was picked because he did the most with a mid level roster, the kind of roster Alabama is going to field with this stupid NIL. Take your pick of coaches and tell me who you think would’ve done better: lose your leaders, including defensive all American. Inherit whatever mess he had with Milroe, and an abysmal running game. Win 9 games with a single wing quarterback and then 11 with a first year starter. Improve from the first year to the second.
25-26 NIL spending:
Top Estimated NIL Spenders (2025-2026 Roster/Collective Focus) [1]
  • Texas Tech Red Raiders: Reported \(28+\) million.
  • Oregon Ducks: Top spender with high per-player averages.
  • Texas Longhorns: Estimated \(\$22\) million+.
    • Ohio State Buckeyes: Estimated \(\$20\) million+.
    • Texas A&M Aggies: Reported \(\$18.5\) million (with high total department revenue).
    • Miami Hurricanes: Estimated \(\$15\) million+.
    • Alabama Crimson Tide: Estimated around \(\$15\) million. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]

Unless you have something that is official, this is just “trust me bro”.

I’ll play the game, 7th on that list and he finished above number 1,3, and 5? Maybe that’s why he got the extension?

Want to talk about CNS? OK, he knew the modern game of college football needed top notch QBs around the middle of the past decade. He started recruiting the best he could get to T-town. Tua, Mac, Bryce and then we missed and missed badly on JM. By the time Ty got his chance, other things eroded around him last year. It appears we have taken steps to fix the OL issues, but time will tell.

Now CKD has come into the picture and he's signed THREE 5 Star QBs in 3 signing cycles and it looks like we are on the verge of signing one in 2028!

Teams are built around QBs and CKD has proven he can recruit the best. Let the man have the time to play these QBS!!!

This year will start to show what we'll become. I believe the foundation is being laid to be the top team in the SEC again.

I do not particularly want to talk about CNS and I’m not evoking his name out of thin air.

I was responding to the claim that keeps being repeated that people are upset and want CKD fired or something specifically because he’s not CNS and nobody is really saying that.

It’s like people are just talking past each other and trying to start friction and arguments just because we aren’t seeing eye to eye on whether CKD’s tenure so far has been worthy of a better contract.

Some do not think he has earned one (me included) and that does not make me or them ‘thick headed’ or ‘broken’.

CKD is now making a Top 4 salary in CFB and we have not even remotely had Top 4 results.

He’s made a lot of changes this off season and that’s a potentially good thing but it’s also because of how much he’s gotten wrong in 2 years that has necessitated those changes even needing to be made in the first place.

Recruiting has continued to look good on paper and that’s a good thing too but to this point it has not manifested anything better than a 4 loss season and we have not won a single thing of importance.

I don’t know about anyone else’s careers or work history but in my entire life I’ve never been given a substantial raise based on a future course of action that hasn’t born any fruits.

I would have needed to accomplished something of merit worth rewarding.

It’s blowing my mind how this is so seemingly difficult to understand.

I agree. I don't find fault in him for taking the job. Let's go ahead and admit... CKD lost control of the team his first year. Blame it on what ever you want... when a player REFUSES to come out of the game the Coaches have lost control and that starts with CKD. Discipline was better last year, I will admit that. NIL has made coaching more difficult. No question about that.
BUT, if one looks at CDK record at Washington it's not much better than what we've seen, Every conference game was a nail biter with a 6 or 8 point win.
Just keep in mind... because Paul Finebaum say CDK is a good coach or CDK is represented by Jimmy Sexton does make him Top Tier.
Someone needs to take a good look at the athletic department. Byrne is right when he says we do not have top tier NIL money. Why? Could it be the old guard has cut off their giving? HHUUUMMMM. Did ADGB even address the Red Elephant Clubs at spring practice?? What about the get together last summer? Just wondering.

Winning records against Lanning, Smart, Sark make him top tier. You know, the coaches everyone wanted to take the job, but didn’t.

So he lost control of a train wreck roster, still won 9 games, made some adjustments, won ten games, SEC championship appearance, playoffs with a victory.

Maybe you guys don’t see the reason for the raise and extension because you refuse to see the pile of elephant manure he inherited, and instead focus on some unrealistic standards set by the greatest coach of all time in an era where the coach and the development weren’t overshadowed by the mountain of cash colleges are throwing out.

Nice post. Keep in mind ole chud stirring the pot is probably posting from Lee county.

What seems to be missing from this discussion is Coach DeBoer made SEC history by winning 4 ranked games in a row with no weeks off. Zero SEC coaches had run that gauntlet and won before. Zero. Give the guy and his team just a bit of credit for a feat never before done. Yes, we are missing a running game, and yes we need some work on defense, but he's only just starting his third year here.
