Based on what I geard from CKD at lunch today, we would lose to Vandy again if we played them again.

Im questioning his approach in holding his coaches and players accountable. I dont think he has clearly defined or reinforced the standard for what he is looking for from the staff and players. And he definitely believes his offense can overcome deficiencies in defense.

Sometimes your guys just need a good ole butt chewing...
You mean he didn't say, "If we play them 9 more times, we beat them 9 times"?

A lot blah blah about development and growth , seeing things for the first time. We should learn from this event.

I didnt get the impression he was all that upset that we lost. Not much emotion in talk today.

If any of you have ever watched Ted Lasso, it was a lot like his PCs. If you want fire in the belly type talks, you want find it with him. Way too easygoing imo... If Im Byrne, Im having a conversation with him about his perception.

What did he say to make you believe that?

Cole Cublic was saying it all broadcast on first and second down. That Vandy was running this or that play to set up their 3rd down plays. He was all over it but our staff was not.

You know, I'm not so sure the staff wasn't prepared and didn't make adjustments. I watched George Teague break things down with another coach and the staff, for the most part was calling good defense (per George and his coach friend) but the players were tentative and a step slow.
Add too that, there were several plays where the defensive alignment was correct with what the offense was showing but the offense ran the play in a totally opposite direction and if the defense lined up according to the way the play was run previously then they changed the direction of the play again. Hard to defend against that when you don't have but about 4 or five days to prepare and the other team has been working on this all spring, summer and fall to beat you.
Add to that, Pavia is a really good qb and very quick in thought and high football IQ. I noticed that he was very decisive and didn't hesitate at any time during the game.
Also, although our offense did score enough for us to win they didn't do our defense any favors in not sustaining drives and kind of equaling out TOP.

He may have figured they were setting up 3rd down plays, but he didn't know what those 3rd down plays were. They were mostly plays Bama had not seen before. Bama's coaches likely figured the same, but it doesn't help much if you have no clue what that 3rd down play might be.

Makes sense, Pavia is like having an offensive coordinator at QB. They were using the whole clock and making adjustments at the line after we lined up. I will say I think we should have done a better job of disguising our defense alignment, at least make it hard on the guy.

I didn’t watch the breakdown, but on the highlights on sport shows I noticed on the TD pass, 3 Bama defenders beat their blocks but were standing in concrete boots around Pavia and not attacking. The confusion and lack of preparation is unforgiveable at this level.
