We can only hope it won't be much worse. Can anyone tell me where Rosedale and Forrest Lake are? I know where Alberta City is.

Also, I was listening to talk radio here in ATL this morning. A lady whose daughter is a student at UA called in. She said much of the housing (not university student housing but where students live nonetheless) is destroyed between 15th and 3rd Avenue. Where is that in relation to the stadium and Hackberry? Thanks.
Rosedale is in the southwest portion of the city. If you take Greensboro Ave away from town past the old AGS Train Depot, you'll enter the Rosedale area. Adjacent to that toward the east is The Downs. Forrest Lake lies along 15th street and is bordered by Hargrove Road on the south and about 3/4 of a mile west of the McFarland/15th street intersection. It plowed through Alberta City on the way out of town headed toward B'ham to the northeast.

SCBamaFamily: I read a report from someone who was in Rama Jama's when the tornado hit. The restaurant seems to be OK.
Glad to hear that....I do feel silly asking about a building when so many people are missing, injured, or have lost their lives.

It is so shocking and heartbreaking to see the devastation. I only lived there a year, but a part of my heart will always be in Tuscaloosa!

Horrific and truly heart-breaking.

Where was actual first touchdown of the tornado? Were places further west in the 15th/Paul Bryant area unaffected (relatively)... that other BBQ place, Mike & Ed's... the bowling alley.. etc?

Y'all be assured that much of Soonerland is praying for our Tide brothers and sisters. May God be with you as you recover and rebuild.

After watching the aerial footage I wouldn't be surprised to see the death toll rise much higher. There is just too many structures that are totally destroyed. Being inside an interior room with your head covered doesn't help you when your entire house is wiped off of it's foundation. I am praying for the best, but my heart just sinks looking at this video knowing the possibilites.

Wow, that video makes the few "little" tornadoes that we had look like nothing! Thoughts & prayers of the Hokie Nation are with Alabama today.

Has anyone heard of any organized clean up efforts looking for volunteers? I want to do something to help.
Andrew Bone just tweeted this number for volunteers - 205)561-4169 and also to text REDCROSS to 9099. If you choose to do that please let us know. Maybe that deserves a separate thread of its own. Thx!

Weather forecasting gives more time than ever before to warn people of approaching storms. In major metropolitan areas, you never think a storm like that will happen. They can, and they do, and being prepared is crucial.

Thank you all on this forum for your input as through last night and this morning you remain one of the only venues of news/input of what is going on and has happened.

Prayers for all the area continue to be lifted; very hard to work as my thoughts continue to return to "home"; unfortunately we are in a position of having to leave Little Rock and try to get into T-town as we have been unable to get in touch with my wife's mother (lives just off Hargrove, east/north of the mall). Does nayone have any information on roads or ability to get into the city?

thanks

Is there someone else to watch the aerial footage? When I click on the link that video is blank..

Haven't been able to post because the damage is incredible. We are also running out of gas and water in large sections of the city. I have several friends that we cannot find. One girl and her fiance lived on 15th street and they were together when it hit. She survived but we can't find her fiance. My previous house and neighborhood are all completely gone. Please keep us in your prayers and tell AL Power, the Natl. Guard, and all the rescuers we love them and will never forget their heroic efforts.
