The Crimson Tide posted double-digit runs for the fifth time in as many games during the midweek

3/10/2020

BIRMINGHAM, AL –
Alabama put together another dominant offensive performance on the way to a 13-7 win at UAB on Tuesday evening at Regions Field. With the victory, the Crimson Tide heads into Southeastern Conference play with a 16-1 overall mark.

Alabama got one run in top of the first and then added six to start the third. The Tide put things out of reach with three more in the top of the fifth before posting two in the seventh and one more in the eighth for the win. The Crimson Tide used seven arms on the night with redshirt junior Garret Rukes (2-0) picking up the win. The left-hander tossed 3.0 scoreless innings of relief, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out one Blazer hitter.

The Crimson Tide bats posted 13 runs, the team's ninth game in double-digits this year, including all five midweek pairings. Redshirt sophomore Sam Praytor paced the Crimson Tide in RBI with three, all coming on his home run. The roundtripper was Praytor's team-leading sixth of the year. Owen Diodati also contributed double-digit RBI with two. The freshman finished 2-for-4 with a double, two walks and a run scored.

From Head Coach Brad Bohannon

"This team doesn't lack confidence. They really, really believe in themselves, and I believe in them. I'm jacked for this weekend. I can't wait for the next 10 weekends. We'll have some ups and downs but the whole key is how we respond when we get punched in the mouth – because we really haven't had it happen, and I know that it will. These guys are pretty excited about the weekend and so am I."

How It Happened

  • T1 | Brett Auerbach recorded a walk to begin the game. The senior then stole second before an RBI-double to left from junior Tyler Gentry brought Auerbach in and got the Tide on the board first. (1-0, Alabama)
  • T3 | Back-to-back walks and a hit-by-pitch loaded them up for Peyton Wilson with the freshman drawing a four-pitch free pass for an RBI. After a Blazer pitching change, senior Kolby Robinson delivered a sacrifice fly to right to cross another run. An error allowed freshman Jim Jarvis to reach at first and score one more and Auerbach followed with an RBI-single. Then, with two still on, Diodati doubled to clear the bases and cap the inning's scoring. (7-0, Alabama)
  • T5 | Freshman Myles Austin led the inning off with a single and was joined one out later by Jackson Tate, as the junior was hit by a pitch. Following a pitching change, Praytor sent a three-run shot deep to left for his team-leading sixth homer of the season. (10-0, Alabama)
  • B5 | After a pair of walks, the Blazers got on the board with a three-run home run to left. (10-3, Alabama)
  • T7 | Diodati walked and Tate singled to put two on. The duo moved into scoring position on an infield groundout with Diodati crossing on a second groundout. T.J. Reeves then brought in Tate in the next at-bat as the sophomore singled through the left side. (12-3, Alabama)
  • T8 | With runners on the corners, Tate singled to left to add one more. (13-3, Alabama)
  • B8 | The Blazers used three singles and a pair of errors to plate four runs. (13-7, Alabama)
Postgame Notes

  • The Crimson Tide totaled double-digit runs for the ninth time this season, including all five midweek matchups.
  • The Tide bats also accumulated double-digit hits for the 12th time in 2020, including two of four road matchups.
  • Alabama hitters have now hit at least one home run in 13 of 17 games with multiple homers in five of those contests.
  • The Tide stole five bases on the night. The five steals are the most by an Alabama team in a single game since Feb. 16, 2013, when UA had five steals against VMI.
  • Following his 1-for-1 night, Brett Auerbach has recorded a hit in eight straight games. During that stretch, Auerbach is batting .444 (16-36) with four doubles, a home run, nine RBI, 11 runs scored, seven walks and five stolen bases.
  • Auerbach stole three bases, a career-high for the senior. The three stolen bases are the most by any member of the Crimson Tide in a single game since Casey Hughston swiped three bags against Lipscomb in Mobile on March 6, 2015.
  • On the season, Auerbach has recorded 12 stolen bases through 17 games. Those 12 bases are the most in a single season since Georgie Salem had 17 in 2015. Salem's 17 swipes came across 60 games played (59 starts).
  • Tyler Gentry has now reached base safely in his last 12 games dating back to game two of the Feb. 21 doubleheader at UNLV.
