Re: Clay Travis Says We Are In Potential Trouble

I read the article and it is obvious Travis does no research. He refers to the "shirtless" 40 that Cody ran...that was Andre Smith that did that. There is nothing in any of those pictures that shows Trent doing anything other than signing some gear. It doesn't show him selling anything and it doesn't show him receiving anything for the signatures. This is akin to having a picture of someone drinking and then trying to arrest him for a DUI even though there is no evidence of him being anywhere near a car.

Typical pandering "journalist". Bad news about Crap U one day, bad news about us the next day. Because heavens knows we wouldn't want to totally alienate one fan base vs. another, wouldn't want objectivity to get in the way. Not sure what the mystery is here, honestly... I'm sure his JOX buddies are proud.

Putting your enemy on the defensive is the way the game is played. (If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen). Their feeble attempt to put us on the defensive just gives their fanbase a diversion from what will become their reality. Judgement day for the Barn since yesterday is one day closer. The clock is ticking.

Re: Clay Travis Says We Are In Potential Trouble

Joe Schade just tweeted that Alabama has investigated the situation and found no wrongdoing.

"Alabama has looked into relationship between players like TRichardson and T-Town menswear"

"Alabama concluded players did not receive extra benefits"

Schade also notes UA sent a cease and desist order in December. So this was taken care of 8 months ago. I suggest everyone cease and desist their panic, having a real compliance department pays off again.

Mostly remember its beyond our control, UA has a great compliance department and those pics are 8 months old not to mention our players know better. The University will likely address it in the morning and we will know one way or the other.
Exactly. I think this is nothing. Here is T-Town Men's Wear's Facebook page

T-TOWN MENSWEAR - Local Business - Tuscaloosa, AL | Facebook

These have been up on the site for months. If this was something illegal, they would have wanted to hide it. Why has the store not taken it down, if that was the case? If the store and players were breaking NCAA rules, I doubt they would be that stupid to leave those up. The only logical answer is that this is perfectly 100% legal and cleared with the NCAA and our compliance office.

Re: Clay Travis Says We Are In Potential Trouble

Clays article is misleading and is intended to be...I would point out, it seems he singled out TR I guess because he is a current player and a star for Bama's team, and apparently chose those pix of just him or certain ones standing with the supposed store owner in order to insinuate a violation, but all the pics I saw had other players as well including an obviously graduated Prothro as well, and overall it appeared to be a pre-arranged auto-graph signing event with other players/ex-players signing stuff for fans including kids...meaning it looked legit to me.

Clay has a blog and his goal is to get hits...so don't give him the satisfaction...

Re: Clay Travis Says We Are In Potential Trouble

I believe these would be provided to wear, not to keep, sort of like a uniform. I'm not familiar with this personally, but I would think that would be the situation. Rather than wearing custom track suits into the coliseum like the gymnasts do, the football players wear suits. There's no reason why one is a uniform and the other isn't, if provided for and handled the same way.

By the way, the University can provide clothing and other benefits to student athletes from an emergency fund created by the NCAA. I have no idea, however, what constitutes an emergency or what restrictions are placed on that fund.
I'm not sure of the exact rules, and I certainly have no desire to attempt to decipher NCAA rules either. I don't know if any of you took this NCAA quiz put on a North Carolina website. ( http://reesenews.org/2010/12/16/staying-in-bounds/7929/ ) It's no longer operating, but it was a great quiz with lots of ticky-tacky interpretations of NCAA rules. I distinctly remember missing a question about a university providing suits for travel, pre-game, etc... With certain stipulations it was approved. To be honest I always wondered how every one of our players could afford a suit. Seriously, some of our players come from very challenging situations. When I got that question wrong it all made sense. The University was able to provide one for them according to NCAA rules. Sorry the quiz is no longer in operation. It was fascinating.

Re: Clay Travis Says We Are In Potential Trouble

Clay Travis and the ITAT (among other *U fans) are the prime examples why not everybody should be allowed to own a computer and/or be allowed on the internet. They are no better than supermarket tabloids. What Clay did was irresponsible as it it clear that he didn't do his homework on the situation and he wanted to get the story out there without all the facts.

With that said, I want give a shout out to the compliance office for getting out there and cutting this off at the pass.

Anyone who thinks our compliance department's sphincter tone isn't as tight as it can get since the whole textbook situation went down is seriously naive. A school doesn't self-report 44 secondary violations and miss something like Clay Travis is trying to insinuate.

Did T-Town Menswear Cause an NCAA Violation For Alabama? : Out Kick The Coverage

OK, this whole thing was STARTED by Auburn fans on twitter, and then they kept tweeting and emailing Clay and Brooks about it. I dismissed it at first, as just dumb barners trying to dig up crap on us to deflect from their misdeeds. BUT now Clay has written this about it, and I'm really worried. Should I be?
Alabama looked into the relationship between T-Town, the store, and players such as star running back Trent Richardson and concluded that the players did not receive benefits such as merchandise or discounts

clay isnt technically wrong since he placed a question mark in his title. However as quick as he was to write the article he's been equally slow in updating it. He got scooped on his own story by ESPN.

I get the feeling that Clay has had lots of things blow up in his face.

Regardless, how can one make the leap from a picture of an athlete signing autographs to NCAA violations? Someone needs to do some more work on their Jump to Conclusions Mat.

In Alabama off "highway59"
Travis took that whole story, hook line and sinker that the barners cast out there. It kind of was a win win thing to the spin doctors out of deflection u. If Travis runs with article it will take some focus off them for a few minutes of news cycle and once it, the signing of stuff, is deemed appropriate by different organizations after checking into it, Clay Travis would have damaged his own rep, “hey if he had story wrong about Bama, hey he has probably got story wrong about us, awbrens, also”. Case of him looking for hits to a new website and not doing due diligence in checking out the crap that the barners sent to him. Hopefully he will not be so anxious to pull trigger next time with a story generated from the aubum degenerates.

Re: Clay Travis Says We Are In Potential Trouble

I was going to post the ESPN link but I was beat to the punchline. You must understand, though, any POSSIBLE illicit or illegal looking action will be taken at face value as wrong if it concerns any other school right now according to *U fans. They are deflecting and very angry. I could not even speak to my *U family recently because of stuff like this.
