This was an "I told you so" that anyone could see coming a mile away.

I broke this down in years ago in a NIL thread and it's going to be fairly hard to fight.

Once you have NIL you are no longer amateur, you are professional. Once you are professional, what right does someone have to say you can only be employed for a few years?

NIL was always going to tear up everything about college football, and eligibility rules really don't make much sense once we give up the idea of them being student athletes.

This is also one thing I don't know how to fix. I was against opening Pandora's Box from the start, but I can imagine ways to deal with the stupid playoff and committee, ways to deal with the portal, ways to even reign in NIL but...

I am not sure I can think of a way to fix this issue. It really makes no sense to say they're paid professionals but they can only work for a few years. This is worse than the problem NIL was supposed to fix (that they can't be paid before they go pro).

Just saw the news that some judge in Tennessee granted Diego Pavia a preliminary injunction against the NCAA, making him eligible to play in 2025. You know the NCAA won't have the time or guts to fight this. So, we've got NIL gone haywire, now we'll probably get eligibility going haywire.
They will have to raise the scholarship limits to 205

So the precedent is set now that JUCO years don't count towards one's eligibility?

A twist on the former NFL player who wants to come back to college:

It's a matter of a short period of time until a player who is really good in college, but not quite good enough for a multi-year career in the NFL, just stays in college indefinitely. Makes more in pay-for-play money than he can in a workaday job, and is literally a 25 to 27 year old grown man playing against a bunch of 18 - 20 year olds.

I wonder how long it would take Trent Richardson to get back in game shape? (Not sure if that should be blue font or not).

Let's be proactive. Contact former NFL players we can use and are not currently on a roster. Sign them up now. Make that our recruiting strategy going forward.

This is exactly what I had in mind when I initially brought it up when I was arguing against NIL.

The player I had in mind was actually Blake Sims. He's a semi-pro guy, productive college QB, but not able to make more than six figures. He was #2 in the SEC in passing yards, #1 in passing TDs, he also had 350 rushing yards and 7 TDs. He's easily a 7 figure QB in this climate... Why would he ever leave college?

Let’s get some of the alphas from the Saban era back who have eligibility left and teach the youngsters the Bama standard. Preferably the hard way in spring practice 😉

I don't think Rolando McClain is doing anything right now...
Unfortunately Rolando IS probably doing something. It’s called “time”..

He was arrested in 2022 on drug and weapons charges in Decatur. One of several scrapes with the legal system.
