The 3rd sack is interesting. I was curious how that was drawn up and why it worked.ah, the good old days!!
Before the snap, Bama and LSU line up like this:

It looks like Bama is going to overload the offensive left side.
At the snap, they do this:

The offensive right tackle has a choice to make. Do I block the defensive tackle lined up on my outside ear (the obvious choice) or do I look for a stunt (the secondary responsibility), or, wait a minute, why does the defense have two DBs to the right when we only have one receiver out there? Should I look for a corner blitz? (The correct choice). That is a tough ask for an offensive tackle to be agile enough to block a corner blitz. Maybe this was the running back's responsibility? But if Bama sends two corners from the offensive right side (which was what Bama did), there is only one running back on that side of the offensive formation. Bama's outside corner blitzed wide/deep, pulling the running back away from the more dangerous inside blitzing corner, and, in the end, they both got there. Mettenburger really had no chance.
Anyway, great play design and great disguise of who is actually coming.
