After the debate, Senator Elizabeth Warren appeared to rebuff a handshake from Senator Bernie Sanders. The pair sparred during the debate -- and in the days before the debate -- about what was said in a 2018 private meeting between them. Ed O'Keefe and Caitlin Huey-Burns join CBSN from the spin room in Des Moines to discuss.

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Democratic presidential candidates had one last chance to contrast themselves on national TV before the Iowa caucuses. And in between slams of President Donald Trump, they delivered. Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders traded criticisms of their long records on trade, foreign policy and health care. Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar reprised their December clash about experience in the Oval Office. And Elizabeth Warren turned a question about her allegation that Sanders said a woman couldn’t beat Trump — a comment Sanders has repeatedly denied making — into a call to recognize female political power in the Democratic Party.

I dozed off with about 15 minutes left. There was nothing new. A lot of “I’m the only one on this stage ...” I didn’t care for the questions.

Maybe I’ve seen enough of these debates.

Getting down to the nitty gritty here.

There are many who feel none of these candidates can win the upcoming presidential election - but I'm in a wait and see mode myself.

A lot can happen between now and November.

Including the president getting ousted somehow.

Also - Biden has the lead but even that can change - especially if a particular candidate "catches fire" with the voters.

That person could even be Mayor Pete or Pocahontas.

I've never felt Bernie ever had a chance. That 'socialist' tag will always be an anchor around his neck. I do appreciate his passion and comments about helping the average American though. His voice is a good one to have and to be heard - whether or not I agree with his policies.

Watched less than 2 minutes and it was stupid stuff about women cant getting elected . . . so I turned it off.
Same here. When one of the clown journalists asked Warren what she thought about Bernie saying a woman couldn't be elected, I was done. Stupid subject. Worse, the question shows bias for Warren. Not interested.

That was Abby Phillips of CNN.

I saw a report earlier with the taped conversation between Warren and Sanders after she refused to shake his hand and she is telling him (paraphrasing) "I think you just accused me of being a liar on national television."

Apparently there is no love lost between Sanders and CNN.

I love how all the liberals were telling people like me who were cautious and critical of Elizabeth Warren that we were overreacting but she has shown herself to be the snake in the grass that some on the left thought she may have been all along.

Senator Warren literally just lied about a longtime political friend, who has never pointed a bit of biting criticism at her in this entire process, with the most ridiculous lie you could possibly say about the man. I mean, yeah, the man who half his campaign staff and all his best endorsements are women is just a big ol’ sexist. The man who begged you to run against Hillary Clinton in 2015.

Pretty sad that she‘s stooping to this level to be Biden’s VP because there is no way in hell most who support Bernie Sanders will vote for her now. She needed a Bernie decline that led to an influx from the left into her more moderate left position. That was her only route to a primary victory. No way that is happening now. She basically created a big lie smear campaign to be the most useless elected position in American politics. Town dog catcher may do more than the VP.

It was stupid of Warren because even if the words did pass Sanders lips, nobody believes he thinks a woman can't be elected.

Agreed, that moment was awful. Probably the worst moderated debate so far.

It was just more of the same anyway. Pete and Warren did well, although Warren got some softballs by the moderators. Bernie looked worse than usual. Amy had a Rick Perry moment and started to forget names. Biden looked too old. Steyer stared directly into my soul and made me uncomfortable. So, nothing new.

are you really surprised, though? this has been going on almost non-stop for the past three years.
I’m not surprised, but I’m also not going to ignore casual racism simply because the president and his supporters have found a group that lacks the political power to push back.

Really?

Might as well call Harris and Booker "Aunt Jemima" and "Uncle Tom" while you're at it.

As Vox’s Dylan Matthews explained in February, Warren has consistently said that her mother is part Cherokee, even though Warren herself isn’t an enrolled member of the three federally registered Cherokee tribes. Her ancestors don’t appear on the Dawes Rolls, an official list of members of the Cherokee, Choctaw, Creek, Chickasaw, and Seminole tribes put together in the early 20th century. Having a direct ancestor on the rolls is a requirement for enrollment in the Cherokee Nation.

“Using a DNA test to lay claim to any connection to the Cherokee Nation or any tribal nation, even vaguely, is inappropriate and wrong,” the statement from Cherokee Nation secretary of state Chuck Hoskin Jr. read. “Senator Warren is undermining tribal interests with her continued claims of tribal heritage.”

New evidence has emerged Elizabeth Warren claimed American Indian heritage in 1986
