Do we think Ty wins the Heisman?

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

Part of me would like to see him win it, but also a part of me wants him here two years. If he wins the Heisman he will probably also be guaranteed to go within the first five picks of next years NFL draft and I'm not sure he can turn that down.

maybe the idea of playing for the jets, browns, Aints, or Titans will make him comeback?

2023 Jayden Daniels - #1 in QBR, #2 in TD passes
2022 Caleb Wiliams - #5 in QBR, #1 in TD passes
2021 Bryce Young - #2 in QBR, #2 in TD passes,
2019 Joe Burrow - #1 in QBR, #1 in TD passes
2018 Kyler Murray - #1 in QBR, #3 in TD passes
2017 Baker Mayfield - #1 in QBR, #2 in TD passes
2016 Lamar Jackson - #4 in QBR, #16 in TD passes (had 21 rushing TDs)
2014 Marcus Mariota - #1 in QBR, #2 in TD passes
2013 Jameis Winston - #1 in QBR, #2 in TD passes
2012 Johnny Manziel - #1 in QBR, #24 in TD passes (21 rushing TDs)
2011 RGIII -#4 in QBR, #4 in TD passes
2010 Cam Newton - #2 in QBR, #11 in TD passes (20 rushing TDs)

Currently Ty is #16 in QBR and #5 in passing TDs.

Some of the QBs he would be in competition with based on these stats would be...

Maiava - #1 in QBR, #18 in pass TDs
Sayin - #4 in QBR, #7 in pass TDs
Beck - #6 QBR, #34 in pass TDs
Taylen Green - #2 in QBR, #12 in pass TDs
Mendoza - #7 in QBR, #4 in pass TDs
Altmyer - #9 in QBR, #18 in pass TDs
Pavia - #14 in QBR, #12 in pass TDs

Ty won't get very many games to simply pad stats. Even our "easier" SEC games are against teams like Auburn and SC who have decent to good defenses. He will need to have a big game against Tennessee since their pass D is pretty weak.

I may also have missed some other contender at QB but these are the guys who stood out. Obviously, Arkansas is unlikely to have the record for Green to win it. And same with Illinois and Altmyer. Pavia missed his chance by playing so poorly against us IMO.

That leaves the main contenders as probably Maiava, Sayin, Beck, Mendoza and Ty assuming a QB wins it.

If you are a bettor then Maiava is really intriguing. Currently +2500 to win and his HC helped Caleb, Kyler and Baker win Heismans. Plus he has a big game against Notre Dame this week and if USC wins and he has a big game those odds will likely change drastically.

Ty will have the exposure to impress voters from here on out. Several top 25 opponents (as of today) left on our schedule; so if he continues to improve and stays healthy, he will have a good chance to win it. If Carson Beck is the main competition, Miami has the remaining games lined up to really embellish their QB’s stats. And we know how much Heisman voters like shiny things, so if Beck goes off a couple of times, who knows.

As much potential as Russell has, if we had to chose Ty's proven performance over what Russell's potential is, I'm taking the known quantity. Bird in hand so to speak.
Completely agreed but if he gets a round 1 grade (which he seems to be trending towards) he's gone.

I think I said back in August... that he wasn't coming back next year... If he was coming back, it would be through Portal... No way you sit Russell for two years.

Playing pretend, if Simpson decided to come back there's no way in hades I'm not taking him back. He's a national championship caliber QB and those don't come around very often. We are currently enamoured by Russell but Texas was enamoured by Arch Manning as well. We have NO IDEA if Russell is going to play like Simpson or not. But we KNOW what Simpson is now and he's the type of QB that can win you a title. If Simpson decided to come back you just hope Russell is willing to sit another year and get his turn the next. If not, then let him go, but you CANNOT tell a sure thing star QB to walk out the door and replace him with a QB that you THINK will be a star QB. Just can't take that type of a risk.

That's one perspective you're presenting. Let me present another one for you:
Look at Georgia and Carson Beck.

With all due respect, we didn't know what we had in Simpson in Spring, Summer and it wasn't until Fall Camp that things began to click for Simpson. First game, everyone was ready to write Simpson off, and That's quite a reach to call Simpson a national championship caliber QB right now. Maybe we can say that in November or December. Right now, he's a Heisman candidate playing well and making good decisions for the most parts. He's making NFL throws that most QB can't. He's shooting up the NFL draft board and is playing himself into first round pick. Right now, it's likely he will not come back next year. I cannot see in any circumstance he returns next year. The reason I said that is because back in August during fall camp, it was mentioned barring any changes at last minute, He's 1 and done if he does well.

Russell is going to be fine. He's going to be unknown until he proves that he can be that guy. Ty simpson had to do same thing this year. You can't sacrifice the future... NIL changed the game and how we look at the roster. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.... but for now, I'm pretty sure as long he continues to play well, I don't expect him to be back.

Not at his current numbers but anything is possible if we turn it on and play lights out the rest of the year

Agreed - It's very likely he's 1 and done, but he also has said he wants to win the first NC for CKD, and if we don't do that he might feel like there is unfinished business. If, and it's a long, long shot if, he were to make that decision the way he's playing now, I'd hope we could hold onto Russell, but wouldn't tell TS he couldn't come back just to appease him either.

The short answer for this season is no. I think Mendoza is better right now personally. If Ty comes back next year, he would definitely be my front runner.

Mendoza looks good, stats maybe slightly better than Ty. Indiana schedule is fairly fluffy from here on out, unless Penn State gets mean again. Beck and Miami‘s remaining games don’t look that exciting either. Alabama definitely has the most challenging remaining schedule; which, to me, equates to more “Heisman moment” opportunities for Ty. Those “moments,” or strong visual memories of great plays, often trump pure stats in Heisman voters’ thinking. I believe Ty already has one (the 4th and 7 to Brooks) with half a season to play..
