When I was a student here he was living in Northport. We had him play a bunch of times at a local coffee house (cant remember its name) and taped an interview for public TV.

Yes, indeed! "I don't know, I don't know...but from here I really can't tell..." mrs. exiled & I saw him many times downtown (can't recall the name of the place). He was awesome! A stroke had largely eliminated his guitar playing, but he could still sing like very few ever.

Thanks for the reminder...(shifts into daydream mode of listening to Johnny Shines...productivity waning...)

p.s. - do you know if he ever made any recordings that are available on CD format?

"In short, Alabama fans have plenty to be proud of right now, and plenty to look forward to. And that pride and optimism isn’t only rooted in tangible accomplishment either. A lot of it is rooted in the class and character of the men who lead the program and of the young men who wear that crimson jersey."

The 1st time I saw him, or even heard of him, my roomate and some friends took me to his house. He sat there with his acustic guitar, copper pipe on his finger and played some awsome slide guitar. I wish there was a way to get a copy of the public TV recording that we made on campus. They must have a copy of it in their archives somewhere.
