I have ZERO problem with this - it's his intellectual property. The fact IP is largely ignored by most people on the internet is immaterial.

I understand, but dang Don! No wonder he and Felder had their ups and downs! I can't wait until Don Henley battles the "Eagles AI songs" that are probably just around the corner. I would actually be more fearful of the AI stuff that's starting to hit than guitar lessons for Hotel California (Which Don Felder gives away).

Henley has every right to do this. However, and maybe crimsonaudio can clear it up for me if I'm incorrect, but he has to be doing this out of principle and not for the money. No way these people doing these cover songs on YouTube are making much money if any from Henley's songs or anyone else's.

To me, if he's doing it for the money or the loss of money, he needs to get his people to scrape Youtube of all their albums that are on there that people can listen to for completely free. But again, at the end of the day he has every right to do this because it's his. He doesn't need a reason.

Well you couldn't even find any song by Prince on YT until after his death.

I'm not in the business like CA so would have to defer to his take on things, which I usually agree with.

It's about the "excellence of the product and brand". Don is incredibly intelligent and such a perfectionist that he is buying his first bands records off of E-Bay to put it out of circulation. He is in charge and it's his way. But, he is an incredible musician and his success speaks for itself. Too bad he seems like he is a bit of a jerk and egotistical. This is actually a great interview with him and Billy Joel. Billy Joel is a great interviewer.

Pick up the video about the 58 - 102 minute mark with audience questions and listen to Don's story of an orchestrated Desperado and then Billy Joel tells a little story about both of them playing together at one time.

Don is overthinking this which he seems to be the type to do. Other people covering their songs keep the Eagles in the ears of younger generations and it is really a huge compliment. But obviously, Don doesn't see it that way. If I hadn't told my daughter and younger sons about the Eagles they'd never known who they were. Don may not care two craps if their music transcends generations, but if he does, he needs to take a Valium and chill a bit. Having commoners play their music on youtube could end up helping future generations remember the Eagles rather than "hurting the brand". I've heard a few interviews with Henley and he can come across a bit pretentious and high-strung.

I have noting but respect for artists that don't cow to trends, such as this. He has his principles, and is in fact losing money by sticking to those principles.

If we had more real artists rather than a generation of glorified karaoke singers, the state of music would be far healthier.

Speaking of Karaoke ..... Wings of Peguses has busted Don using backing tracks. Allegedly!

I get what you say though and agree to a point. I love the Eagles music, but his personality leaves something to be desired. He's just a grumpy old man now.

I couldn't care less about an artists' personality - I know too many to dive deep into that. I like their music or I don't, unless they are hateful people.

Henley isn't hateful. Call him names all day, but he just doesn't want hacks ripping off his music for their own benefit. I love that principle.

I hope he doesn't hear me humming in shower! :ROFLMAO: Maybe I need to move that Alexa out of the bathroom. He may be listening!
I'm just glad Don didn't cover other people's/bands' songs (without paying them) in his early 20's when he was trying to get noticed. That would be quite hypocritical of him if he ever did that.

Don Henley trivia

he’s from Gilmer, Texas, a little maybe 4,000 population town in NE Texas. Also from Gilmer are Johnny Mathis and the great Freddie King. A lot of music per capita.
