Re: Blue-chip defensive tackle Reggie Ellis to visit

From what I've read, he is an excellent athlete and the staff seems pretty high on him. He will be a tough pull though, because he has several friends at Illinois and Ron Zook is a great recruiter. I think the staff has a good shot at landing him and he picked a great weekend to take his visit. He has already taken his visit to Illinois and did not commit while there, so I believe this is a good sign for us. It will probably come down to Alabama and Illinois.
That about sums it up. Zook is a great recruiter and he does have friends there. Illinois is an up an coming team but they are always going to play second fiddle in the big 10, here he can win a NC.

IDK about that. I mean Illinois is coming off a GREAT recruiting season of 07, having a solid effort for the 08 class. Now while, I don't see a NC for them in the next four yrs, but I don't see them being 2nd fiddle for much longer.

It looks like his official visit may have just been playing the recruiting game to visit Bama and see a good football game. If he was not willing to wait until after the season to make up his mind then maybe he was just not really seriously interested in Alabama anyway. It could be that the staff had thought that was the case and that is why they did not stay in close touch with him. It could also have been that they have other prospects rated higher that they are puruing. Just speculating...

Re: DTs Reggie Ellis and Chris Martin

Hard to say.....

We cooled on Martin early on, when we were his favorite. Then he had LSU out front. Now, he is talking more about FSU and that Bama is talking to him weekly.
I had wondered about Martin because Choctaw is my high school. I have gone back home to watch several games and he impresses me sometimes and then other times he seems he is playing at half-speed but i guess we will.....BTW he was injured for a few games so perhaps that was why it seemed that he was playing at half speed.....

You know what? It's not always about football. Illinois is one of the top schools in the Nation. Your Bravado is showing....reel it in a tad.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say this had absolutely nothing to do with academics considering Ellis had something like 5-6 former teammates playing for the Illini..
