No moment. A member of the coaching staff is married to a girl from my hometown. My family is very close to HER family. They were notified earlier this evening.

I can't believe this is going down. Esp. at this late. It's going to be very interesting to see how things unfold tomorrow and in the coming days.

Shula was a good coach for Bama, and will never be forgotten, but we needed someone who can take us to the next level. Good luck Shula.

Tuscaloosa - A tumultuous week for Mike Shula is over. ABC 33/40 sports has learned Shula will not be retained as the Alabama head football coach. We first reported the story just after midnight. The Alabama coaches out on the road recruiting have been summoned back to Tuscaloosa.

Where Alabama goes from here isn't clear. There's been a lot of talk about Steve Spurrier and Nick Saban. There is however no reason to believe either guy will come to Tuscaloosa. Other names mentioned: Rich Rodriguez, Jim Grobe and Paul Johnson.

I don't think Saban would come; he is friends with Don Shula.

I sort of doubt it's Spurrier, but it is possible.

I second that. But, I'd heard from several people that Saban politely declined our offer. Spurrier hasn't said "no" yet. :biggrin2: But I'm not getting my hopes up.

Doesn't he have a Big 12 Championship game to prepare for? I would think that Spurrier would be a more likely replacement than Stoops.

Stoops would be an interesting fit at UA. I think that he could make an instant impact.

I have been a supporter of coach Shula. Now that he is gone I will support the next guy. It would go a long way to reunite the Bama Nation of Pro Shula Guys if we could name a coach soon that we all know can flat out coach.
No long drawn out search that looks like a circus, please......

I want a big name coach. I want a coach that can take this team to the next level next year.

Funny how those sources know he was fired, but know nothing about whether or not a coach has been found(not necessarily who).

If we're going to make the decision to fire Shula seemingly so quickly, hopefully they found someone.

I hope for our sake(maybe even in recruiting)that it's a big name coach.

There is no question that Shula's replacement has got to take Bama to the next level. I think (hope) that the powers-that-be recogize that. Let's just hope that they have the good sense that we all do when it comes to picking coaches.

You know, I believed he needed to go after the MSU debacle, but I'm a little sad. Last year, I wanted so much to believe we had our man for a new generation. I feel bad for the young guy, but if all that's been said is true and he genuinely wouldn't make the necessary changes to get us back on top, there was no choice but to let him go.

Still, I teared up a little when I read this... is that weird? :conf2:
