Link: Eddie Jackson Becomes The Highest Paid CB In The NFL

NFL scouts sometimes act like the prospect will be the only player on the football field. Yeah, of course they’re good at some things and not others. That stuff isn’t real scouting...that is just message board smack with some truth in it. The point with evaluating players is having a dispassionate understanding of what they can and cannot do and whether those things can work within your scheme.

I’m sure the Bears looked at it like: “he’s not a safety that will be a plus in run support but our scheme and personnel does not need that as much as they need ballhawks who can run down bad balls forced by front line pressure.”
It's the one thing that makes the patriots the patriots IMO. No one is better at taking a guy who is really good at one thing and just making them do that over and over again while minimizing the need to make them do things they are bad at.

In the same draft Mitch Scrubinsky went before these QBs who I’m sure never amounted to anything in the NFL:

  • Patrick Mahomes
  • Deshaun Watson
  • Lamar Jackson
I’ll give you Mahomes. You needed to watch him play to realize he was playing on just an abysmal team and just how magical he was with a football in his hands. I even kinda understand the concerns about Jackson but for now they appear to be invalid. But how in God’s name do you draft this 1-year starting scrub from North Carolina above Deshaun FREAKIN Watson?

Not only was he drafted earlier - they traded up to get him. :ROFLMAO:

That is awesome. Congrats Eddie!!! John Fox knew what he had in Eddie early on.

I went back and read some old articles from Chicago when he was drafted. They kept including him on the list as one of the biggest draft busts ever. Not sure why other than that was the same class that saw Kevin White taken 7th. Now he was a BUST!!! EDDIE was that diamond in the rough.

Super happy for Eddie. I recall chuckling at Coach getting on Eddie in some TV broadcast during his freshman season.....it's terrific to see how far he's come.

Yeah, it makes me laugh every year when people talk about how smart these GMs and front office folks are in the NFL when it comes to talent evaluation. So many of them fall in love with random guys or draft based on potential because they are so afraid of missing the next Brady. I'm guessing many of them have their jobs because of connections and/or family names. It's the same in every business.
