ESPN/ABC TV Schedule

Not sure if I am correct...but I think CBS, by contract, has dibs on SEC games...so ESPN cannot schedule any games without first seeing what CBS is going to do. I could be wrong...but I think that's what I have heard.

That's correct. CBS begins their coverage after their U.S. Open coverage. They get first pick, and then ESPN can pick up after that. The agreement has some exceptions, but that's the basic set-up.

Our games with Arkansas, Florida, Tennessee, LSU, and Auburn will all be strong candidates for ESPN, depending on what other SEC games are on those same dates. CBS gets first pick, then ESPN.

...... with the third pick going to what was JP Sports . I guess the 4th and new network beginning this year is regional FOX Sports .

Unfortunantly, we're enslaved to CBS.

There was always something special about Keith Jackson and the ABC crew televising some great Bama games.

I'd expect to see FOX make a bigger push for broadcast rights in the near future, especially since they have the BCS rights minus the Rose Bowl.

I'd also expect to see an SEC Network, much like the Big 10 is doing, in the next few years.

It is not new for FSN South to carry some games in the first week or two of the season before CBS starts their coverage. I'm not sure what they carried last year, but I distinctly remember them carrying the Georgia-Georgia Southern game in 2004 to open the season. I doubt they will be carrying games once CBS gets going. They won't have a time slot to do so.

Not saying they haven't, but have an Arky, Florida or UT game ever been on anything BUT CBS?

Tim Brando and Spencer Tillman aren't exactly the most "welcoming" broadcasters I have ever seen. I wish the SEC could strike a deal with ABC as soon as possible.

Brando and Tillman only do the pregame, half time and post game shows. I think Todd Blackledge does as a good of a job in the booth as any of those guys on any of the other networks. He knows hat he's talking about and does a great job of explaining it.

Some corrections if my memory serves me right:

Tennessee
1979 - ESPN wasn't televising live games then. Don't think that this game was televised but if it was, ABC did it.
1981 - Game wasn't televised
1986 - CBS not TBS

Arkansas
1992 - PPV not ESPN

Florida
1990 - I think it was TBS

I can barely remember last year's game times and channels, much less 1979!!!!!

It's easier to remember '79 than it is recent years. Back then only a couple or 3 games were televised. Off the top of my head, the only games that I think were televised were the Georgia Tech, Miami and the Sugar Bowl games. I believe that the Miami game was the first televised game at Bryant-Denny and it was a few years before Miami was any good. In fact, I think they lost to FAMU that year.
