News Article: Ex-Texas QB Colt McCoy 'knows he had them' before injury against Alabama

Does a QB on the "verge" of winning a championship come out of a game for any reason other than death?!?!? That might be a little overboard, but did he really make an effort to get back on the field? If he "had us" like he supposedly thinks he did I would think he would stay in... maybe that is just me. His arm wasn't hurting... it was just numb. If anything it might have helped his career to stay in and not punk out.
I'd have to go back and re-watch the broadcast of the game, but I'm fairly positive that one of the commentators said after the injury that Colt told his Dad in the locker room "I had them, I was fixin' to carve them up, I knew what they were going to do before they did it." I remember it because I haven't heard anyone say "I was fixin' to" in a long time, been out of the South for a number of years.
Again, that was a commentator repeating what McCoy supposedly said to his Dad in the locker room, so it's not verified. I don't doub that he said it though. But to me that was just being a competitor and still jacked up from the game. After the game he was very humble and classy in his comments. So I think it's an old quote, maybe he's repeated it in some in private since then, but the writer is probably playing to the Longhorn faithful and trying to stir the pot with the comment.

Whether or not Colt McCoy actually feels this way, what troubles me is that it seems to be the overriding sentiment of the Texas nation as a whole. He completes two passes for nine yards on their opening drive, and "he had us and was going to carve us up."
Let's look at another highly-touted signal caller we faced last season. Against Arkansas, Ryan Mallet started the game 2-2 for 12 yards. Similar stat line to McCoy. They were moving the ball on us.
Final Score: Alabama 35, Arkansas 7.
Mallet's Stat Line: 12-35 (34%) for 160 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT.
In UT's previous game against Nebraska (another very, very capable defense), McCoy was 20-36 (56%) for 184 yards, 0 TD and 3 INT. Hardly "carving it up."
I just don't understand this assumption that McCoy was going to torch our secondary based on two short passing plays. Plus, as others have mentioned, McCoy has no bearing on the UT defense surrendering 4 rushing touchdowns and 200+ rushing yards.

Come on now we are talking about TEXAS. Your comparisons to paltry Arkansas falls flat as do any comparisons to the great and wonderful Nation of TEXAS. The University of Texas has never LOST a game, they have always been cheated out of victory somehow. It's kind of like the Battle of the Alamo, Texas would have won if only Bowie hadn't gotten sick.
I may have missed it but I have yet to see any substantial explanation of his injury...any facts. Everything I read about it has been very ambiguous.
I think it was mentioned that he had had a similar injury, possibly against Kansas State, earlier in his career. I'm not sure if having the injury once makes it more likely to happen again or not. I'm not sure of the technical terms, but I think Earle knew something about it back after the game. To my understanding it is akin to a serious pinched nerve. All sensation was lost in the arm. The commentators and I think McCoy after the game said he tried to throw in the locker room and couldn't grip the ball or complete a pass to his Dad some 10 feet away. I believe him when he says he couldn't come back, I think he wanted to try to play but Brown wouldn't let him.
BTW--I fully expect to get murdered by rabid Texans if I ever step foot in Texas after posting something "dissing the Alamo."
I watched both games and you're right. The Huskers and Suh had a tremendous pass rush. But, it appears that we only needed a few pass rushes to win the game and we got them at the right time. Dareus on McCoy to end McCoy, Deaderick and Dareus on Gilbert before the half and Eric Anders on Gilbert to give us the ball for a short yardage TD with about 3 minutes left.
So quality exceeded quantity on all counts as far as our pass rush goes. Timing is everything! JMHO

He really looked injured and worried when he was on the sidelines talking/joking with Vince Young (another braniac) only until he realized the camera was on him. At that point his demeanor changed and he walked away. Does anyone else remember seeing this on TV?
Maybe that is the underlying viewpoint Texa$ fans should be upset about. He did not support his team after he quit. Bama just helped him do it.
I can't help but enjoy that Alabama won the BCS Championship despite any circumstantial excuses.

What are you guys talking about? Colt had us dead to rights. I mean, he knew exactly how to pick apart our defense. Case-in-point, remember that play when he took the snap and ran an option run to the left side right at our 300+ lb. monsters in the D-line...wait a minute...
Well we just lost Mark Ingram, hopefully not for long.
But I guarantee you one thing. If Mark's not back by the Florida game and we happen to lose, you will never hear him say.."If I had've played we would have beaten them".
That's because Mark realizes that football is a team sport and one guy doesn't determine the outcome. It takes 21 or more other players stepping up to the plate when one of their comrades take a fall.
I know McCoy is dissappointed, and you can't blame him.
But he's not handling it very well.
The fact is YES he may have thrown three or four touchdown passes and played the game of his life.
But it's also a FACT that he may have thrown five interceptions for five Bama touchdowns.
He doesn't know. Nobody knows.
It's called life.
The successful people don't make excuses for what might have been.
They move forward and accept what was.
The losers sit on their butts, feel sorry for themselves, never do anything else right in their entire lives, and blame it on something in the past they had no control over.
Colt was giving it his best against us. He had an unfortunate injury.
But he still got drafted fairly high so he had a chance to put it behind him and to make a few million or so in the NFL.
If I'm not mistaken, Colt is now on the bubble as far as making the team in Cleveland.
Is that Bama's fault. Nope. It's his.
Because instead of focusing on his future he's still chiming away about how Texas would have beat Bama if Dareus hadn't knocked his ... into total oblivion.

Message to Colt- FORGET your college glory years. Worry that you more than likely will NEVER amount to anything in the pro's. And oh BTW: Might want to call your good friend Sam Bradford- who at least in preseason is playing well and more than likely opening day starter.
