For those of you who have filled out this form, you know what a pain it is.
I just recently learned the State of Alabama has made it mandatory for a child to be able to graduate High School, even if they aren’t going to college. Does anyone have any idea why?

I clarified my original post. The form has to be done if the child is to receive a diploma. No form, no diploma.

So they have made filling out the form mandatory for graduation? (want to make sure I'm reading your post correctly)

Yes it is mandatory in Texas as well. I think you can formally opt-out and still get your diploma. While I don't know all the reasons I suspect that it is just so all kids know what options are out there for them as far as grants and loans for college are concerned. Seems like a good process to me. Some of that money goes unclaimed every year.

First year it's pretty bad, renewals are much faster. And now that they added the ability for you to allow access to your IRS filings it's saved a lot of headache.
