We have seen Coach KD making the recruiting rounds but I guarantee Grubb and the other offensive coaches have distributed a wealth of materials for each individual position group to study and "encourage" self directed walkthroughs so everyone can be on the same page in the Spring. STEEP learning curve but history suggests these coaches can get it done.Some notes from 35 minutes into the video:
To run this offense the QB MUST:
* Be able to read pre-snap defensive alignments
* Make a decision wrt to RPO's quick (meaning to give it to RB or pull it and pass)
* Be an anticipatory passer
The above three are "musts" for any QB wanting to effectively run this offense. Also, CKD and Grubb may have to tweak some stuff but I'm not sure we have athletic enough guards and tackles to do some of the run blocking they did at UW.
Again, I'm 35 minutes in and the above things seem to be critical to this type of offense working. But, it is widely said these two guys (CKD and Grubb) are excellent at making adjustments to the talent they have, so we'll see.
One encouraging note: Each offensive unit, has a prominent transfer from Washington who can likely help or lead their group. Mack for the QBs and backs, Bernard for the WRs, Brailsford for the OL.Thank the lord he was hired when he was, because after watching 15 minutes of the breakdown our guys who haven't been in the offense BETTER GET INTO THE PLAYBOOK NOW! The schemes, concepts and X's & O's that are going on in this offense are unreal. The host continues to talk about these things as well and how well designed this offense is. But these boys better hit the play book now.
Pritchett was likely the next man up. Split early season reps with Proctor.Who is our projected starting OT (blindside)?![]()
Hopefully he's improved quite a bitPritchett was likely the next man up. Split early season reps with Proctor.
That's why I think Mack has the advantage heading into spring....simply because he's been in this offense for a season now.Based on what I've seen here, Milroe will have an uphill battle to keep his job. This is not his skill set (yet).
But it isn't "weak" football either. As the hosts says several times in the video this offense is very stressful on defenses. But if you paid any attention to the run blocking section of the video you'll see it isn't "smoke and mirrors" or anything close to "soft" football. It is legit high end blocking schemes that puts the defense in very stressful situations.This is going to be different than what we are used to. Even with Tua and Mac, we had a downfield passing game. Most of what I saw in this video is intermediate passing and leverage running game.
This is not power offensive football...
So not Auburn… that’s a good thingBut it isn't "weak" football either. As the hosts says several times in the video this offense is very stressful on defenses. Uh, no, not even close.So not Auburn… that’s a good thing
Depending on how quick the guys pickup the offense, this is the type of offense that eats Kirbys defense alive. The host addressed what Michigan did and it is something that kills all offenses regardless of style, and that was quick penatration up the middle which kills any offense.We'll find out early about the offense when we play UGA. No doubt Kirby will use a few things that Michigan tried on defense that was successful.
