Question: "First Down Alabama...ROLL TIDE

I have not been to a game yet this year in BDS but was wondering what those who have been thought about this thing the PA announcer is doing? I heard it first at Ole Miss and hated it. I am not too keen on us doing it either, What does the rest think?

I don't know about that but I love hearing Hells Bells On third down when the D is on the field.

They were doing it at the 07 Bama UT blowout in T-Town. I enjoyed it then, and I enjoy hearing it on the broadcast. Always to a little Roll Tide in my head when I hear it.

Totally agree about hells bells being played on third down. That was a great addition to help keep the crowd in it when cheering on the defense...

I really like it, and Hell's Bells on 3rd down, but they also need to play it again when the opponent is going for it on 4th down.

To be completely honest, one day at band practice Mrs. Saban came. She was trying to think of ways to help us get the crowd involved a little more.

I could be wrong, but from what I remember the Roll Tide on a first down was her idea. We started doing it and I swear I never thought it would catch on. Apparently it did.

This is partially correct. She went to the band the week after the Ole Miss game in Oxford in '07 and requested we do this. I was in Oxford the week before and remarked how silly it was. They say "First Down....OLE MISS!!!". The next week I was on the front row of the student section 3 hrs before the game and the cheerleaders were telling everyone that Mrs. Saban wanted everyone to say that. I made a rude comment about copying Ole Miss that I probably shouldn't have, but nonetheless here we are 2 years later. I still thinks it's silly, but it is nice to have the whole stadium on the same page.

Thanks for all the replies...I did not know the story of how it came about with Coach's wife being somewhat involved. I guess we can get used to it and it will become a positive.

I miss Simpson Pepper also. He was the best PA announcer I have ever heard.

Like most of the responders I love the 'Roll Tide' and Hells Bells on 3rd downs; wish there was a different song when the opponent is going for on 4th down - ratchet up the intensity so to speak.

I love it! The crowd was great yesterday with all the "Roll Tide" on first down! The Hell's Bells with the face painted elephants on the Jumbotron is GREAT!! I LOVE the intro right before the team runs out this year! "Thunder!" ROLL TIDE!!:BigA:
