JessN: Five Questions as Spring Practice Nears End

No I had it right.

Smitty is our GOAT WR

He set records that will never be broken.
I’d go so far as to say he’s THE GOAT WR in college football.

Love Smitty, but if Waddle never gets hurt. he doesn't have the same year he did. Mac is probably the Heisman winner that year.

I don't entirely disagree but trophies aren't awarded for maybes/woulda/shoulda/coulda.

Smitty's Heisman also felt like a sort of career recognition. He wasn't necessarily flashy like other winners were. But he won his.

Smitty’s 2nd best season is better than any season Waddle ever had.

His 2nd best season is almost better than any 2 of Waddle’s seasons combined.

Injury or not he was already more productive and a better complete WR.

Their Pro stats are almost identical in the same amount of games. Waddle has a few more yards and Smitty more TDs and a Ring.

I like Waddle and he’s great but Smitty has always been a better WR.

look at the stats of Waddle in 2020. He and Smitty were neck and neck in yardage. Smitty's yardage would not even have been close to what it was with a healthy Waddle. He is still great but don't diminish what Waddle meant to the team.

Weird random thought. If Waddle never gets injured, is Metchie even in the game to knock the crap out of the gator player after the Mac interception?

These hypotheticals kind of back me into a corner where I have to defend Smitty while also not insulting other players.

Tbf I only talked about Mac before.

I hinted that Smitty was #1 and Metchie was #3 and left it at that.

But someone always has to imply that Waddle is better when it’s based off of nothing more than ifs and buts and hypotheticals.

How is it not diminishing Smitty’s accomplishments when people insinuate “yeah but put an asterisk by his 2020 because Waddle DNP for 75% of it”?

Smitty was already better in 2019. He already had multiple single games of 200+ yards and 2+ TDs.

I don’t say he’s better solely because of 2020 but 2020 does help cement the claim.

I say he’s better because he runs cleaner routes, he gets off jams and into breaks better, he adjusts his route with the ball in the air better, he beats double and triple teams better, he goes up and catches balls in the air better and he has better hands with less drops. He’s just better.

Plus and yes his Trophy case is overflowing even if the Heisman was taken away.

He was unanimously selected as the POTY at any position in 2020 and won every award possible.

He’s got 1/2 of the 2nd and 26 in his pocket and was the MVP in the 2020 NCG.

I don’t understand people wanting to uncut those accomplishments.

At best… the only thing someone can legitimately say is they think Waddle is as good because the on the field stuff heavily favors Smitty.

So #6 deserves his flowers.

at no point did I ever say Waddle was better. What I did say was Waddle would have taken away a lot of Smitty's catches and yards.
