Question: For someone not following recruiting...

Considering our current verbal commits, the performance level of our current players (and their potential for improvement) and those we are likely to lose to the NFL, graduation, attrition, grades, etc. what are our real position "needs" for this recruiting class? I have noted that we have commits from three highly touted RBs. Do we really need three? Where are the offensive linemen? Do we need additional CBs or LBs? For those who follow this closely, please offer your thoughts. Thanks.

Also, please do not take my question the wrong way - I trust the coaching staff to know what they are doing with our recruiting - the proof of that is obvious in their past success. I am simply curious what positions we really need to either add depth or improve talent level; all the while acknowledging that our talent level is pretty high as it is, but it can always be improved.

The season-ending injuries to two of our top four RBs should sufficiently answer that question........:cool2:

There aren't a lot of slots left but I think Bama signs at least one more O lineman, another WR and another D lineman. Of course, I'm just guessing here.

CB is a big need as well. But, as stated above 3 RB's isn't a lot especially with 2 down this season.

I know it may take quite a bit of time, but if you read through most of the "commits to Bama" threads, you can brush up pretty quickly on what the needs are and who will hopefully take these positions! Following recruiting is fun!

Two biggest positions of need are CB and OT. We are really pursuing Tunsil (OT) and Ramsey (CB), but there are other prospects at those positions. I could see us with 3-5 more (maybe 6 depending on Deon Johnson situation).

The staff is holding a spot for OT Tunsil and I just read thay may be looking for another JUCO OL as well. The only other O positions I have seen they are recruiting hard for is WR R Foster and ATH A Kamara( Slot WR). Both are takes according to all the sites out there. On D DBs seem to be the priority. J Ramsey looks to be the top CB and A Conner the top S targets. But V Bell S or CB is on high on UA right now and we just got in great position with H Fisher(VT commit) who now says that VT and UA are his top 2. CB J Cook(Neb commit) if offered would commit and I think if the staff wanted M White(FSU commit) he is ours. Also on D we just made a huge push to get back in it for VA LB EJ Levenberry who is now going to take an OV to UA. CA DE/OLB is also showing interest and the staff has him coming in for an OV as well. TX OL/DL A'Shawn Robinson(Texas commit) may be opening his commitment back up and it appears UA will get an OV.

Now I posted that because that is who the staff seems to be focusing on for the last spots so I assume they feel that is the positions of need in the class. Every thing I have read is the staff will take 25 in this class. We currently have 20, some report 21 because of B Hill but the rule allows him to be backcounted still. Also I assume because of some legal issues one will not make it in so we have 19 commits with 6 spots left. My guess would be atleast 1 OL, 1 WR, 2 DBs, 1 LB and 1 DE or 2 DL. The only reason for the 2 DL is if R Nkem or D Liner wanted to come I think the staff would have a spot for either. I think with the OL we have already coming in and if Hill makes in Jan Tunsil may be the only one left wit ha spot for OL. If Hill does not we may take another for his spot.

One more note regarding DBs. The 2014 class may be the deepest I have ever seen for talent at both CB and S. UA looks to in great shape and may sign the best DB class under Saban in 2014. UA could end up with 4 to 5 5 stars DBs in the 2014 class.

I was about to post this as well. Vandy commit but seems to be having a great season. He says he will visit for the MSU game and that UA is recruiting him as an ATH. Maybe he can play DB or they are recruiting Kamara as an ATH to play like C Jones.
I've seen the kid's film and while he does look good, this is a move I have a bit of a hard time understanding, TW, but obviously will defer to the coaches. With only 6 slots available and so many options to fill them, why would we jump on this guy so late? Apparently, the staff sees something in him. Could this be a sign that we have fired and missed on a higher target?

I think at this point it is more of a backup in case we do miss on some other target. I think the last spots are locked for specific players but we will need to fill those spots if we do not land them. And every big target we are still after could just as easy end up elsewhere.

Thanks for the replies everyone. While I do not even begin to pretend that these posts catches me up fully on our recruiting, it certainly gives me a better picture of what is going to be happening for the rest of the recruiting season.

TIDE-HSV: It is good to hear from you as well. It has been awhile since I posted last. Work has been a challenge (as I am sure it has been for everyone else as well) and I am in the middle of interviewing for a new position. As a result, following more closely and getting to keep up on all the details has been even harder. At least I get to watch the games like a *ahem* casual fan.

Yes same kid.
Ah. Yeah, he had at least 2 TDs called back for penalties, and he didn't need their help (holding, etc.). I would think he would get offered if we miss on a couple, but he is talented. He definitely fits Vandy's recruiting MO as of late (finding a hidden gem in our state).

Read today 2 ways he might be added to this class if offered. One the staff may be looking at him as a replacement for D Johnson and if we miss on A Kamara.
